i am a learner

hi,
i just bought my first car i am a learner, and it an AU 99' and it had a bad battery so i bought a new one, now it drives well. I only drive it once a week with my instructor. I get my p's in vic this september, so i was just wondering is there anything i need to do to the car and its battery, to keep it in good condition? like do i need to warm up the car every couple of days or will just driving once a week be enough. And what should i buy if i want to do my own oil changes, how can i learn to do that, is there a book or something, i cant ask any relatives for help. And when do you know when you need something like a transmission service?
