I had to get an aftermarket CD player installed in the XR today since the factory stacker died last night and now when ever I put a CD in or turn the head unit off the aerial stays up. The only time it comes down now is when I turn the car off. Is there anyway to get it to work as it did with the factory unit again or am I going to have to get the factory unit put back in because having the aerial up shits me!

wat head unit is it.....??? my pioneer didnt have a aerial wire so i got the aerial shaved and put one on the rear window....but yeh u can usually pull off the passenger kick panel in front of door....and hook up power , earth and switch...so u can put it up or down either on accessories or whenever keys are out....hoping this makes sense

it's the head unit some have this wierd setup and I'm afraid there is nothing you can do apart from returning the headunit and geting a different brand you'll find if you turn it off first it will go down my kenwood goes down when on CD and i belive alpine do too i've been told Pioneer have the same problem as yopu have so avoid these too

If you get a switch then its problem solved without changing your HU, Im sure an AU Ghia would have it, even an EA Ghia did!

Unfortunately aftermarket HU's won't do the job because the wire that activates your electric antenna is also designed to switch amplifiers on. so if you inserted a CD the HU would switch the amp off lol. A major oversight in HU design if you ask me!
EDIT: sorry looks like i was a bit too slow Last edited by curtleyw; 10-05-2007 at 09:26 PM. Reason: Too slow |

Im pretty sure your head unit would be able to do this. Take it back to the shop and have a whinge at them. I had to do that when mine wasnt connected at first. Had a whinge and its all sweet.

Nearly all aftermarket HU have a power anntena wire and an amp switch wire, even a couple of $180 cheap brand ones have it, curtleyw.

Well if it turns out that it doesn't have the aerial trigger wire, i wrote a tech article on how to go about putting in a fully height adjustable switches using the amp trigger wire, click here
And for the record i've got a pioneer 7750 (about 4th best unit) from 2 years ago and it doesn't have an aerial wire cheers

If its only going down when the cars turned off how can it be hocked up to the amp remote cable? if this was the case it should drop when the h/u is turned off.

Well it's fixed and there was a wire on the back for the aerial. Why the moron that installed it didn't use it is beyond me, it had a bloody sticker on it saying that it is the power aerial wire!!!

I posted a similar thread about a month ago.
I bought and had installed a Pioneer H/U, only to discover it doesn't have a proper aerial control. Aerial is up always when the H/U is operating. I haven't bothered chasing it any further with Jb Hifi. They wouldn't refund, and expected me to splash out another $150 or so on a higher end H/U instead. Audiotech can install a switch for me instead, which is a better option. |

I bought a pioneer deck (9650) for my AU and it had seperate Amp On wire and power antenna wire although if i connected the antenna wire the antenna would always go up when i turn the keys onto acc even if i was playing a CD, so i bought a switch from supercheap for about $4 and connected it to the power antenna and another acc position wire. Im no auto electrician but it works a treat, just have to flick the switch on wheneva i change back to the radio. Hope this helps!
