yep,
it's been one year folks since they introduced the new Hoons law, where a cop can confiscate your vehicle for been an unsafe driver. According to the local newspaper the following stats are drawn over the year : WHERE THEY LIVE? Greater Bendigo.........50 Dandenong...............39 Hoppers crossing.......37 Mill Park...................36 Melton.....................36 Mildura.....................34 WHY CARS WERE SEIZED? improper use................53.3% Excessive speed...........42.5% Drive while d'qualified.....2.4% Conduct/engage race.....1% careless driving.............0.2% Past offense.................0.2% HOON SPEEDS: 0-119......20.2% 120-129...16.1% 130-139...15.8% 140-149...13.7% 150-159....15.6% 200+........2.3% quote from the Dandenong Leader Mon 6th July "it is disappointing people continue to place the lives of others at risk on our roads, but the message is now clear: if you drive in a dangerous manner, you will be caught" State Police and Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron said. "Almost half of the cars seized were Holdens at 49.8% trailed by fords with 16%" this brings memories of the Dandenong-Frankston road and the Noble park Maccas busts : They should just set Sandown Park one night a fortnight. what are your thoughts? |

And the road toll has dropped by how much????
Our current crop of law makers, federal and State, are the dumbest, out of touch morons, that this countries tax payer has ever lavished a luxury life style upon. :

Its all to easy to go seizing cars etc but people in certain areas have no place to enjoy their pride. If the Police in that area were serious about making the roads safer they wouldnt be planning strike action along with Paul Mullet, but I forgot they can do what they want. Morwell was listed as the "Hoon Capital of Gippsland" recently. But Gippsland is mediocre at everything so we (I) don't make it onto the list.

Also i can relate Dandy-Frankston to noble maccas, as i was at both and i saw a lot of common faces. i remember reading about the stats on what the 50k/hour limit brought to society, someone pointed out that acording to these facts, the only way to save lives is to drive at -15k/hr. yeah that's reversing at 15k/hour. The stats never show the real deal. |

Typical, first sniff of a thread against police and someone blames revenue raising. Although I do believe that speed cameras are about revenue raising, these hoon laws are not. If your car is impounded then you have to go to court. There is not a penalty notice/ticket for any impoundment law. The costs that are involved with impounding (at the drivers expense) relate to storage and towing costs and they are a set rate agreed by the towing company. So riddle me this? How can it be revenue raising when no revenue is raised? |

Second of all How come the cars that are siezed and towed end up in the police impound yard which is usually at the back of the cop shop?So everyday it sits in there its costing the driver money but where does that money go to? The cops pockets or their state fund. So in a way it is raising them more money. Third of all when you go to court for your offence you do normally get fined and where does that money go? You get a fine, prosicution costs,Victims of crime levy & court costs... (So the police end up with their share of the money and so does the state ie; it raises more money for them;revenue raising...) So where is that money going? Or am i just blinking my eyes and not really thinkin they dont make money everytime someone goes to court? And last but not least.... Next time dont pick something i said so lightly so much to heart that you rav on and talk down to me like im a stupid women wont have it.If you wanna talk down to someone do it somewhere else. So riddle me this batman I'm from SA these are my laws so if im wrong in your book well sorry i didnt go and check in with the laws of every state before i wrote this in reply to your lil speech. Do you think this is the kind of bloke that should be out on our road? Hoon driver appears in court Posted July 11, 2007 12:39:00 Updated July 11, 2007 12:38:00 A 34-year-old man has been granted bail after appearing in the Perth Magistrates Court accused of riding his motorcycle on one wheel at 70 kilometres per hour over the speed limit. Mark Brian Benedetti was arrested last night after police stopped him in Como. It is alleged he was carrying drugs, and more than $26,000 in cash and a knife. Mr Benedetti was not required to plead to several charges including possessing amphetamine with intent to sell or supply, reckless driving and driving without a licence. He will appear in court again next month. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2...htm?site=perth |

Wheelie at 70km/h over the limit? So he was doing 120km/h in a 50 zone on the back wheel? Good riding skills. 180km/h in a 110 zone? Ghost rider..... Or did he do a wheelie and THEN do 70km/h over the limit? Or did the police do 70km/h over the limit to catch him? Was this in front of a kindergarten? Or put in woop woop or a new estate with no one there? He had $26k in cash? I have had that and more on the odd occasion. Had a knife? I have one right now, on my keychain and unlike Crocodile Dundee as far as the law is concerned there is no such thing as "thats not a knife". Unlicenced? Did he lose it or forget to pay it for a week or so as I have done twice now. Drugs, well there is no excuse assuming that the substance was actually what it was claimed. If this person is indeed guilty of all of the alleged offences then he is not a desirable driver but until he is convicted he is the same as anyone else like: E series driver with bald tyres and stuffed brakes. Little old lady with bad eysight in bubble car. Short angry man with hat and beard in giant 4WD with steel bullbar. Yummy mummy in armoured shoebox with 3.2 screaming school rats onboard. It is good that not everyone prejudges others on hearsay and third party inuendo otherwise a young person driving a turbocharged front wheel drive "sports vehicle" driving around the most remote capital city in the world might be mistakenly thought to be a wowser....... |

You forgot to mention the time of the offence as a factor - 3:00am v's 3:30pm. To further clarify, he was in a 50km/h zone and had his license suspended.
I agree that the media does sensationalise matters to an irratating (I'm being polite) degree. I don't care about him carrying $26K cash and a knife (unless he is a Road Rager). Notwithstanding, I hope he is skillfull enough to avoid the little old lady in a bubble car that cannot judge distance/speed/time that pulls out right in front of him. I'm just a believer that there is a time and place to carry on like this, and public suburban roads are not the place, and never the time. Quote:
