Which would you prefer? 5 speed VE Omega with Datsun style door trims or the 6 speed ESP pack Falcon.
The Omega only has a 4 speed.

There is about 10 VE SS's in the Wetherill Park police distribution yard. All highway patrol vehicles. All waiting to be picked up. They have all had the signage put on them in the last couple of days. So I'd say that they have been given the OK.

Hmm, the police-pack VZ SV6's used the 5 speed tiptronic, so I am not sure if they optioned it up in the Omega or not?

Well, the base model BF has a much better interior, so you'd expect something more decent from a new model "VE".

Saw a marked VE between murwillumbah and tweed heads (old road), guess they've got a few if there is also a unmarked one (was also the reddish/brown color)

I knew a the head of a highway patrol in sydney , going back to AU days his preference was for the XR8 over the SS .. I ran into a guy in Brisbane ( Capalaba) who claims that he had a contract to do Specials for the NT police . Long Range tanks and 300kw plus on Falcons . When they are out of service they had to be returned to factory spec . Anyone heard of this ??

WA Police didnt buy Falcons (apart from column shift utes) after the BA was brought in with the Sports Shift 4 speed. They have recently reintroduced them (BF II). So for the past few years all the Police sedans have been Commodores. WA Police also dont have V8s so our Highway Patrol cars were SV6s.

When the VE was introduced a lot of stations replaced their VZ's with them, we have one at our station and weve had nothing but trouble with it. A Falcon is on order for the replacement. Not sure if ours is a Friday afternoon job or whether they are all this bad but I would be pretty unhappy if it was mine.

Our Highway Patrol cars now include XR6 Turbos, still people are getting the VE SV6 ?????????

Seen plenty on VE chasers in sydney, the latest being today travelling on bexley road.

I seriously doubt they have been rejected.

if you think that interior looks bad, you should try driving one, the steering wheel it really hard and plasticy, like the gear shifter, from the inside the doors never feel like they close properly, but do you want the best bit....?

to open the fuel door, all the other doors have to be closed and the car unlocked, then you have to push the fuel door in and let it out to open it....much like the ashtrays in an au, where it has that pressure catch mechanism....

that's right, there's no fuel door switch in the cab, that's how you open it, not sure about the higher models, but that's on an omega, i laughed like anything when i heard this, lmfao

i think that QLD govt has a no V8 policy for fleet cars so that might be why their not replacing the SS`s with new SS`s .

Unmarked ones are a light blue (ripoff of the EA colour Blue mist hehe) VE pov pack
And a grey/silver territory

According to a friend who is a member of a Crumple-Door forum, the VE passed the tests/checks with flying colours.

While everyone is talking about the different types of cop cars, we were down in Mandurah last week (W.A) to pickup our new BF MK2 XR6T and on the way there this white unmarked XR6T rips out in front of us cutting us and another car off, fishtails up the street, jumps across 2 lanes and then rides the back of a smaller car. A hundred metres later the cops pull over the driver for failing to keep left unless overtaking (that law is still active over here in WA for carriageways doing 70 or more).

Clearly he was enjoying himself cos he was flogging the crap out of the car but he broke more laws than he upheld and then got upset because a smaller car didn't get out of the way in time.

bugger, wonder if the driver of said car happened to witness the event..
bit sad really. I have some pics of the vz, and the ve next to each other in unmarked form, interesting to see the similarities between the two.
