HaHa,
A friend of mine bought himself a VL commodore for $700. He drove it for a bit then had to purchase a new bumper and engine $1800. It ran out of rego and cost another $500. He just shat the computer and is looking at $$$$$'s more. I bought an EF ex-taxi @ 800,000Km's. $1750. I did the rego $400. I shat 1 water pump $100. I got 2 new tyres, 225/65R15, swapped for 4 215/65R14's. RRP $92.50ea. I have driven mine harder than his and look at the costs impaired. I would hate to have a HOLDEN. ![]()

Yeah...i hate it when those dam Holdens run out of rego, my Ford would never do that.....would it ?
![]() Comparing two old cars with high klm is an indication on what sort of life they had, it has nothing to do with one brand being better than the next. |

Well yea, but a 97/98 EL vs. a 20yr old VL has a bit of an age difference, although the fact it's a `just Holde'n together' exacerbates it :P
btw, how the heck did you manage to pickup an EL for under $2k?! ![]() |

settle guys (EDIT: guy), it's obviously not some sort of scientific comparison! Lets have a bit of a laugh, at the commodore. We're at a ford forum after all!
I reckon that's a danm good effort for an EL to run up 800000k's.... I'm guessing it's on it's second motor by now though? By the way, what's the badge on the side of it? (in your avatar?) Reminds me of a cruddy old truck i saw yesterday with a big HKS sticker on the side of it :P Last edited by dogbreath_48; 23-05-2005 at 06:45 PM. |

I'd love to have a laugh at the Holden, but then I look at the stacks upon stacks of money all three of my cars (all Fords) have cost me and I quickly shut my mouth. I don't buy Fords for their reliability, that's for damn sure. I mean, I get the point of this thread (lord knows I love to poke fun at Holdens) but Fords aren't exactly the most reliable cars on the road. Not by a damn long shot.

Haha, @ the HOLDEN.
dogbreath - that badge on the side of my car is a 351 badge, i want to put a 351W in it.And it is still on it's first and original motor. bigoggs - The car is an ex-taxi, they are quite cheap. I think an AU taxi is about $3,000 to buy now.

I dunno, the bodies on VL's seem pretty loose, but the motors are fantastic. I'm biased as i used to be an R31 owner, but the rb30 is one of the sweetest non german 6 i have ever driven. They're built to survive to at the very least 400,000 kms, your mate's car must of been well and truly thrashed before he got it. Had to borrow my mate's stepdad's VL once, shoulda seen the look on my face when i saw the odo jammed on 615,000. Upon further enquirey, it stopped there about 3-4 years ago now, and it's still on it's original motor. Shame the rest of the car is rooted. Lays good rubber too. :Reverend:

I dont get it - so a $700 VL is a lemon... ummm big deal. Would a $700 XF/EA be any better?
I would have a laugh at him if instead of fixing up the car spend the $ on a set of 20" rims, 3" exhaust and a 99% tint like so many others I see around

A $700 XF, yeah right. A free XF and the damn thing went to 657,000Km's. Then a piston went through the block because of lack of oil. HEHE

R&S Customs, I really don't know what you're trying to prove, your argument is totally pointless. WOW so your taxi has done 800,000km....want a medal??
Honestly, you sound like a 12yo bogan to me. ![]() |
