Hey guys,
It's time for me to upgrade from that monster of a stock radio and replace it with an awesome Pioneer Unit. But I'm having trouble removing the surrounding panel and I don't want to break anything. So how can I remove the old and in with the new?

EF I.. open ash tray, 2 screws, 1 at each side of the panel.
swing panel forward and the top is sorta hooked on.. should then come off EF II.. remove ash tray by pushing it out from the back, 1 screw holding it in on the left hand side. clip holding it on right hand side. pull from bottom and swing forward as above.

The EF II choice it was.
That right hand side clip was really difficult. It was right underneath and you have to push it to the right, then the panel swings forward. And to make things even better the screw holding the radio in are allen-key screw with a bluddy metal center piece so you can't use an allen-key! Grrrrrr! Thanks for the help EFFalcon! Much appreciated.

Be aware that you need security torq-bits to remove the radio from the dash

You have also probably melted the plastic that surrounds those screws, in a real pickle you are.

Pheeew! After using a hacksaw to create (and very difficultly I might add) a straight groove in the screws, the screwdriver undid the extremely tight buggers and are now finally out! Now what I need to know is how to remove the radio as the metal brackets on either side are preventing this?
...Built Ford Tough alright! :hihi:

I'm pretty sure there is a 'how to' on fordmods.com for removing radios from the ef/el.

Should be 1995, It's definately a series 2 because the model code is 18633, whereas series 1 is 18433, for the GLi series. Done and done! BTW I've ended up buying the Max Ellery's FALCON/FAIRLANE 1994-98 Repair Manual from AutoBahn. This makes things so much easier : I recommend it to anyone with a Falcon/Fairlane EF/EL! I've booked in for JB Hifi to install my CD player...time to open a beer and relax :hihi:

Torx bits are a much needed purchase for an EF/EL... whats worse is AU's have a 5 star torx bit... ITS STUPID!
