I wouldn't pay more than $25,000. Explorer's are hard to sell, espcially V8 ones with the price of fuel these days, Hold out a few weeks, if you gonna have it for the long haul im sure a few weeks now will be worth it.

One will pop up, and the selling dealer might even be a decent bloke!

Ring the sales manager and tell him your story, the little asswipe may not care but his boss might regret loosing a sale thats becoming harder and harder to shift.

Mate with service like that jsut go elsewhere.

I went to pac ford in Maroochydore and got a sweet deal, signed up for a ba mercuray silver sedan. but he didnt get a deposit off me

within my 24 hour cool off period i backed off the deal, said i felt pressured into buying a 04 ba for 18k., so he poops himself, boss would drag him across the coals for not getting a deposit, i ended up with a nice Harvest Green XT for 15K, knocked down from the 17990 sticker price ;)

Gotta make em work for you mate ;)

And jsut remember, if it was the Ford dealer on the sunshine coast remember they are forum sponsors, so they will be on here often ;)

I'm a lot calmer now than last night ......I will just back right off now and go back to the beginning for my search ......

Ratt when I spoke to him last friday he wanted me in the dealership to do a good deal ,yesterday when I rang him back there was "no deal" It was , I'm just looking on the computer now , Oh sorry that Explorer is in the red so its $27999 goodbye.

So the vehicle has been on the lot for at least a month probably more and he is just finding out now that its in the red........I'm sorry but carsalesman are a lot smarter than that......
To leave me hanging for 5 days not return my call is bad no matter what price is on it...
anyway like I said I am better off for the experience and will keep looking.

Mate, if the bloke reads these forums and has treated you like that, then he is obviously a real schmuck.

Do the math, if you got what you had wanted (even if it meant say a $1K hit on him) and you came on here and said how wonderful <blokes name> was at <dealership name> even if that made 1 person go there and ask for him instead of going to another dealership, because of his dealings with you, he could have made a lot more sales.

But he also obviously doesn't understand that being an absolute pr*ck (which it seems he has) and you come here and tell all of us, that is a hell of a lot of sales he could potentially miss out on as forum members let their friends know and so on so forth.

Plenty of cars out there mate don't let it worry you too much, end of month coming soon and more importantly end of financial year so these dudes will do the deal if you are still interested.

call his boss and buy the car from someone else in the yard - so he doesn't get the commission. If he does read this and was behaving like that then he needs a good long hard look at himself.

After all aren't we supposed to be a 'community' which would involve looking after one and other where possible... :togo:

Anyway - I am sure you will find something better and cheaper eventually

Keep your chin up mate.

I suppose what the salesperson thought is that he did the best he could do and now feels betrayed. I don't really know.

Keep looking I'm sure you will find another one.

Is he the only dealer in used cars at this dealership? I would go back some other time when he is not there, unfortunately car dealerships are just like the outside world some nice guys and some utter morons just seems you got the latter. Good luck.

Just wanted to offer you a few tips.
If you want to save big bucks check out the auctions in Brisbane and buy one at wholesale price depending on the auction house you can even get warranty on the car.

Try these out and search there stock.

www.pickles.com.au
www.mainheimfowles.com.au
www.brisbanemotorauctions.com.au

also search for Brisbane Motor Auctions. Manheimfowles at Eagle farm have specialised 4wd Auctions fortnightly/monthly and you can pick up a late model Explorer for less than $20 grand.

Be patient the right car will turn up at the auctions.

Mighty red, don't think we have any explorers in our yard, but anything else you'd wanna look at, drop in and say g'day at ken mills across the rd from sizzler.

I agree, why not deal with another salesperson in the yard? Why not send a mate to do the haggling for you ( so you are not there to be recognised) and you come back to make the deal, paperwork etc? Losing a sale to another salesperson would have to be a salesperson's worst nightmare. (but by the sounds of things he didn't deserve it anyway)

thanks for the tips guys ........I will just keep my eyes open and wait for the right vehicle to come along ........I'm starting to think I might wait for an Explorer Limited which is the top of the line with full leather etc to come along with the right Km's and condition.

Amazingly one day after the salesman told me I would have to pay $27999 the same vehicle is now for sale on cars guide ,carsales etc for $26999......go figure, maybe its for sale to everyone but me.

I believe in 'Fate'.........you are not meant to buy that vehicle. There is probably an LTD waiting in the wings with only 20000ks on it for $22.000. Be patient!
Good luck Chilla

Not sure what the fuss is you told him $25K is your limit. He obviously couldn't do it so was no longer bothered with you. If you said 25K maybe he'd have come back and said $25,500. You're the one that stopped the negotiating by saying that's my limit.

Now he is a Pr!ck because he wouldn't sell it to you for $25K :

Now you're upset because its for sale for $27K...you're still $2K short.

im a salesman at a dealership, and ive read all the posts, where do you guys come up with how much profit id in used cars?? 7%? ive never heard of that rule in my life.

Truth be told there is rarly more than $3-5k profit in any used cars and with todays economic climate even that is tough. the days of getting 10k off a used car is gone... dead and burried.

Sounds like the salesman cant do the price, id be p!ssed with him cause he didnt ring you back, but seriously you cant be cranky if there is simply no margin in the car to play with.

Ive been a manager in dealerships both new and used for about 10 years, and it still stuns me to hear about how much people think we make out of cars.

I thik at 27k the explorer is good value, i traded one a week ago and it was around that wholesale!

So get your facts right before blurting a whole load of crap....you PR!CK!!

Look elsewhere the moneys in your pocket burning a hole the longer you wait the cheaper the car will be and the more you can spend on extras seatcovers tyres wheels
I had a major hassle buying a car last year and ended up buying one in Brisabane and drove it back to Townsville might pay to look elsewhere

maybe a territory

Personaly I would never buy a Explorer they are well known for having problems and the resale value is very poor. The Territory would be better value for your $$$ and reasonable resale value.

Horses for courses, as you say its a personal choice, If Territory was a true 4wd with Low and High range I would consider one.....As for Explorer being well known for problems ......I am only aware of the pre tensioners on the V8 engine causing problems and the solenoid in the 5 speed auto Trans that had problems, Apparently the Auto Trans problem was fixed by Ford with an Additive added to the Trans fluid , not sure if there was/is a fix for the pre tensioners on the V8.....

Most models have inherent problems , The BA range had plenty of them, look at the XR6T and F6 lunching gearboxes and diffs etc , the GT,s have had there share of problems too....

One of the reasons I want to buy from a Ford dealership is so I can buy a 4/5 year warranty to cover any inherent problems the Explorer might have.

With the 4/5 year warranty are you talking about dealer aftermarket warranty or ford warranty.

I believe it is a dealer warranty although at the time the salesman did say they would work something out so any warranty repairs could be carried out here on the Sunshine Coast , the price quoted for the warranty was $1600 ......from what i could gather the $1600 warranty had no excess or limit in $$$ toward any warranty repairs.

Although it wasnt mentioned I would think I would have to have the car regularly serviced at that dealership.

In other words I wouldnt have to pay any $$$ toward any warranty work for the 4 or 5 years the warranty runs for.

So I was trying to get the Explorer $25000
.................................on roads $1100 Approx
......................12 months rego.;....$750
...............4/5 yr ford ext warranty $1600
-----------
$28,450

If he's a salesman go to his boss and put your offer to him or find out his name and send him your offer by email. Some salesmen can be nice guys and helpful and some are just oversized pricks especially short ones. Give it a go .
