hi guys,
Im just wondering if anyone knows who can insure me? I tried just cars and they would insure me if the mods were all RWC, I imagine this means engineered as well? The car isnt engineered yet. I tried Shannons too and they wont touch me because Im under 25. The other usual suspects dont want to know either. Is there anyone else Ive missed? Would my best bet be to get Mum to insure it and have me as a second driver? Is it possible to get policy's that cover just weekend use? Thanks Dan

I have already asked Minge, he couldnt help.
So anyone want to buy a Turbo AU XR? It doesnt seem likely that I can get coverage and Im not sure my parents will let me put it in their name.

So, didn't it end up getting engineered?
Don't sell it, unless you can work something out with it.

Nah, my old mechanic managed to kill the ECU the week I was due to go up to sydney to go through the engineering process. Ill have to do it later on in the year when I can organise time off work again.

Grab a copy of Unique Cars and go through it. There's stacks of insurers advertising in there. Otherwise try a broker.

Got your heart set on comp dan? I guess even with 3rd party they want a RWC/engineered?
Phew, good old SA - the "no RWC" state.

It wasnt actually killed, the mechanic downloaded the map into his laptop to make up another one then his laptop died trapping the only driveable map inside it. The ECU was fine but it had no tune.
Full comp would be ideal, Ill get unique cars on my lunch break and have a look.

It is not be possible to insure a turbo falcon under your parents, i have tried. 1. All the 'usual suspects' e.g. RACV, AAMI, GIO.... wont insure drivers under 25 with turbo cars. So your mum may be able to insure it with them BUT you will not be able to be listed as a driver nor will you be covered in the event of an accident. 2. Most specialist type insurers e.g. Shannos will most likely say to go away because your under 25, have a turbo and it is highly modded. 3. Just Cars are pretty much the only place that will cover you but their policy is to have the youngest driver listed as the main driver i.e policy holder. Thus you cannot insure it under your parents name with them either. It sucks, but if you find a way around this let me know :voldar02: |

Looks like the only option is to go just cars after it is engineered.
Or I could sell it. :(

try insurance brokers, you may not get a cheap rate, but if you honestly tell them what you need, they will find it (well thats their job)

Broker may be ya only option.
Be sure to tell them ya mod's and incase your car is stolen keep current photos. (everyone with a modified car should do this) Don't try and be shifty because if the insurer finds out (which they more than likely will) they will deny your claim anyway. Didn't ya think of this before you bought it? Only other option is to leave it lock away until you get it engineered. You wouldn't want to hit a car that you can't pay to replace!

If I was to sell it I would want to clear my loan, then I would go without a car for while while working on the mini. I would try not to get hooked up with modding the thing. Once the mini is done of course! I dont drive enough to give this car the road time it deserves!

Maybe what Gambit suggested. Join a car club who has Shannons or another insurer onboard. They might have a different attitude towards you then. Our club is sponsored by Shannons. :hihi:

Is the only problem with JustCars the fact that it isnt engineered?
I doubt that its because youre under 25 and own a modified turbo car. They agreed to insure me for an import Camaro with a supercharged V8, highly modified of course. If the only problem with engineering is emissions test then you just gotta get up to NSW somehow any way you can. Have you considered switching ot straight gas? Bit of a letdown i know considering how much goodies in terms of fuel mods that car has but if its the only way to insure then its the only way. |

Try Young & Cool. EVeryone else I called when I bought the XR6 didn't want to know.
Don't try putting it in your parents name. They make it more expensive to get around it. All Y&C ask of customers is that you have a 3 point passive arming immobiliser fitted to it, or it's not covered for theft. A WRX requires a tracking device instead. They will also discount your premium if you do a driving course through them, OR I think it lowers your excess. You can also get the immobiliser (if you need one) cheaper through them as well.

I pay $355o for a MkII xr8, first got the car when i was 19. Insured through just car's. As long as the mods are legal they'll insure them.
Your only option might be to get it up to sydney sooner. |
