Cool cran angle sensor

My brother and his girlfriend are into holdens and when i told them i was getting an xr6 well they went out and bought a 2001 statesman v8.When i went over to mums on the weekend it was parked on the side of the road and dad had covered it up. Apparently it had died while they were out driving and they towed it back to the oldies place. The mechanic said it was the crank angle sensor, what is it and what does it do? is it expensive to fix/replace?I really am having a good laugh because the whole family did not want me a girl to have an xr6 and now my brother,s $18,000.00 car has broken down.

AFAIK it's ignition timing sensor .. I'd doubt it's difficult or expensive to replace .. nor is this a Holden-specific issue.

Mounted on crankshaft pulley
I bought one for a ford EF model acouple of years back
It only cost about $50 and was easy to replace on afalcon
dont know about a holden but shouldnt be to hard or expensive

Gotta love the split family holden / ford thing, my 2 girls only buy holden stuff to annoy me , but when they were young i said i would only buy ford stuff and manly footy guerseys, spose they got kharma on me.
