I get this squeaking noise from underneith the car when driving at low speed and suddenly accelerate. Ie slow down at a round about, then hit the gas to speed up and the squeak come from like the gear changes? It is an auto. I'm hoping it is not the tranny, otherwise the car itself drives fine and swifts through gears fine..
It does sound like something of mechanical, moving part tho.. I been searching for the tsb but can't seem to find any for these cars?

I would be checking engine and gearbox mounts as well and if you can try giving some of the bushes a squirt with a spot of WD or similar, if that helps then you'll know it's nothing too serious, just annoying

I've done about 104,000km. I'll look under the car tomorrow.

Since I got the alternator replaced (94,000kms), i get a slipping-belt kind of noise in the same situation or if the engine is labouring. Check your belts.

If the alternator belt is a bit loose then the noise will be worst just after you start the car as the alternator pumps the amps back into the battery should go away after a few minutes if that is the symptom.

I have sprayed wd40 on the engine mounts above and under the bay where I could see. Still the same. Checked the ebrake cables too and secured them but the appeared fine.
Checked the tranny dip stick level and that is also fine. However looking down with a torch I could see an oil patch ontop of the transmission..... Looks fresh and not dried up. I don't recall me ever topping up the fluid or doubt the service guys would top it up and spill that much..

I'm no mechanic, but I am wondering if it has to do with the drive shaft? It seems to be when accelerating/engaging drive that it happens. I've told my mechanic a few times about it and is never able to replicate it and has checked everything he thinks it could be. Weirdly mine doesn't really do it till it's warmed up, so it leads me to think it isn't a belt issue. As you say, it doesn't affect the way the car drives, just really annoying as it sounds like something is wrong with the car. EDIT: My Focus has done around 90,000km but has done it since I got it at around 58,000km Last edited by Focii; 10-12-2012 at 09:14 PM. Reason: Additional info |

Yes, I too think it was a drive shaft related squeek rather than anything else.
