"Holden has let slip that it will sell the next-generation Cruze alongside the already-confirmed Astra beyond the end of its factory closure in 2017 — with a big small-car sales boost expected.
This means the next-generation Cruze, expected to be made in Korea, will be sold here alongside the new European-sourced Astra — the latter of which goes on sale around October 2016. It may not be a big revelation, but Holden was yet to confirm that the new-shape Cruze revealed in June this year would come here to replace the aged current model, which is still being made in Australia. The confirmation, let out at a Holden event last night, means the new Cruze will be the sedan complement to the Astra hatch moving forward — similar to the Hyundai Elantra/i30 duo. The pair share a platform, subbed D2XX. The pair combined will give Holden a more thorough presence in the small car segment than at present. Small car sales are dropping — down 7 per cent this year — but remain the most popular cars in Australia. Holden’s market share in the small car segment with the current Cruze and the niche, aged, Astra three-door, is only about 7 per cent. The Cruze is way down this year as its shadow lengthens — by 17.5 per cent. Making a bold prediction, and letting the cat out of the bag, was Holden sales director Peter Keley, who said: “We will sell more Cruze with the next-generation after we have closed [our factory] than we sold last month. “… Cruze is at the end of its product cycle, we will replace the vehicle and sell more cars than we do today,” he said. Where the Cruze will be sourced from remains unclear — it’s currently made in the US and China. However, we expect Korea to come on stream as a source soon, and that seems most likely. The Astra will be sourced out of Poland. Furthermore, while we know when the Astra will launch, the E.T.A. for next-generation Cruze is less clear. If Holden builds the current Cruze through to the factory closure in late 2017, then perhaps after that — at which point the new car would be two years old. The other option would be to sell the new Cruze sedan alongside the current Cruze, the latter being cut in price and dubbed something like ‘Cruze Classic’. Or, perhaps Holden might cease current Cruze production early and just build Commodores at its Elizabeth plant to the end. It’s a bit unclear." I wonder if this will be any less reliable than the current one? And BTW Hyundai/Kia called, they want their Elantra/Cerato design back!

Starting in 1986 (when only 26 cars were manufactured, followed by over 95,000 the next year),[15] Kia rejoined the automobile industry in partnership with Ford. Kia produced several Mazda-derived vehicles for both domestic sales in South Korea and for export into other countries. These models included the Kia Pride, based on the Mazda 121, and the Avella, which were sold in North America and Australasia as the Ford Festiva and Ford Aspire.

Acquisition by Ford
In 2006, the Romanian government bought out Daewoo's 51% in the joint venture for US$ 60 million. A year later, in September 2007, Ford Motor Company was interested to acquire a 72.4 percent stake in the company for 57 million euro and on 21 March 2008 the acquisition contract was signed and Ford officially took over Automobile Craiova (later transferring the fixed assets to Ford Romania). As of May 2009, Ford acquired a majority 95.63% stake in the company.[5] Ford Transit Connect, both the passenger carrying and van models, was Ford's first model produced in Craiova, followed by low-capacity car engines and a small wagon, the new Ford B-Max.[6][7][8] The plant will add a second, as-yet-unnamed small-segment model.[9][10]

Later that same year, GM announced that Daewoo Motors in Europe would change its name to Chevrolet on 1 January 2005. In 2005, it was announced that Daewoo cars would have a Holden badge in Australia and New Zealand. In South Africa, Thailand, and the Middle East, Daewoo models were already branded Chevrolet. In South Korea, Daewoo was renamed GM Korea.
As part of the company reorganization, the content and the structure of its brand portfolio (its brand architecture) was reorganized.[8] In 2011, GM discontinued the Daewoo brand name in South Korea and replaced it with the Chevrolet brand.[9] The Daewoo commercial vehicle manufacturer was taken over by Tata Motors – the world's 4th largest medium and heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer. Crap cars now aligned with GM but some people blinded by their faith don't realize ford have had cars built by these companies too.

Daewoo ceased to be an entity long before the Cruze was designed. GM Korea saw a huge 'broom' put thru the place. A bit like Kia is now under Hyundai ownership.
I think the last Daewoo designed car was the Kalos (TK Barina) or maybe the Epica. The later cars (Captiva, TM Barina, Trax etc.) are pure GM. Dr terry |

No one I know who owns one rates them at all for reliability, they were all bought on price, even the Hyundai dealer manager I recently bought a car from who was ex holden dealer says they were a warranty disaster from day 1.
