G'day all,
After summing up my options i've come to the conclusion that JustCars is a huge rippoff ($1450 excess 3rd Party F&T when market value is $2900) so i've decided to go on the cheap with SGIC with just third party. Now they won't cover me if I have a body kit, but if I hit someone as far as I know (and have been told) they won't check my car at all, just the damage to the car I have hit to assess it. Is this accurate?

If you write off a Bently or Rolls, there's a good chance they might check the car over to try and get out of paying. I know if I was an insurance company, and I was facing having to pay out a huge sum of money, I'd make whatever inquiries necessary to avoid paying.
Big risk, which could ruin your insurance rating. |

Risk indeed, although I just had a stroke of genius.
If I hit a car, I remove the kit and put standard stuff back on.

In my humble opinion, insure with someone who will cover your car fully- a supposed brainwave will probably have been covered by every insurance co under the sun! You stand to lose way more than they do!

Fair argument, but as I see it one of three things will die. Front bar, rear bar or a sideskirt. Could say that said part was no longer attached to the car on impact, and was thrown away.

This is not the place nor do we condone this action If you want to screw around with the law then do so at your own risk and refrain from publicising it on the forums There are enough fewls driving around without insurance to start with, if you cannot afford to insure it, then you should not be driving it.

Why not try some of the "regular" insurance companies. Sometimes they arent as expensive as you'd think. In my case they are even cheaper than Just Cars and Shannons, although I do drive a stock car.

When you insure your car it is a requirement that you tell them everything. Failing to do so gives them the right to deny your claim. This is fact and they tell you this when you open a policy. it is not thrown at you at the last minute so 'they can get out of paying'. Why is your excess so high? Most people look at their premium cost not excess.

Ofcourse the policy details are not only disclosed at the time of claim, but it is only at the time of claim that they will investigate truthfull disclosure. |

Regardless of what you hit. 1979 Gemini or brand new Benz. They do understand that accidents happen. Hence the reason EVERYONE should have insurance.

So the excess is $1450 ... what's the actual "Premium" cost for 3rd Party F&T???
We all have to pay insurance ... I know it's hard when you are younger ... I had to pay a sunstantial amount each year to keep my car insured ... and seeing as it was through finance ... I had to pay a "Comprehensive" rate ... nothing less ... so you can imagine how much it would have cost. And I had a modified car as well. I just had to save each year for it ... wasn't easy but I managed it.

I can only assume you are a younger driver having to pay an age excess on top of a standard excess. But if you consider the alternitive of what your suggesting and risk a claim being denied, is $1450 too much to pay or would you rather pay the entire damage yourself. For instance a late model falcon being rear ended may end up being easily $5000 to $10,000 to repair. I know which I would rather pay.
An excess is too keep everyones premiums fair it not just to "rip off" people. Younger drivers by way of fact from statistics have more accidents than an expeirenced driver. So an by having an excess it takes away the smaller claims like the shopping centre dings that may not cost so much but are more common hence costing more to the insurance company if they paid every claim a young driver had. The standard excess experienced drivers does exactly the same thing. It discourages a small claim.
