So was driving home and in the last 200 meters of my trip I start hearing odd noises, then it sounded like I drove over a branch and had some grinding.
Got home and popped the bonnet Looks like one of the pulleys or something has shifted and the belt is shredding against it If this an easy fix , does anyone know what that disk is, is it s tensioner or the water pump? (Yeah, I know that little about cars) Any advice appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

it looks like an idler pully but cannot be sure. they are relatively easy to replace but need smallish hands in the engine bay. the bearing must have failed badly for ti to move that way They usually make a noise for a long time before failing so bad

That pulley at the very top is your alternator pulley and beneath it should be an idler pulley

Best practice is to replace tensioners/pulleys with belts after a certain time.
They loose their ability to provide the correct tension. Simple enough to replace, this looks like they've never been changed out - probably only plastic and do a fair bit of work. |
