A friend of mine once told me that if you receive a fine in the mail regarding a Traffic Infringement notice for whatever reason,if you pay more than the amount stated by cheque, they wiil send you back the amount that was over paid by cheque but to avoid getting any Demerit points don't Bank the cheque, because till the cheque is cleared they can't finalise the Dermit points.
Is that myth true or has anybody eles ever heard about this or is this just plain crap. Cheers John

My missus got done with a speed camera 7k's over so we paid the fine $131 but sent a letter in stating she hasn't had a ticket for at least 5 years.
Got a reply today saying this is a caution, no penalty and refunding the fine. |

It dont work anymore They fixed that loop hole.
I went to school with a girl that works at the perian courts and she deals with this stuff every day .. The only thing i remember her telling me that could be usefull is If you dont pay your fine it becomes a warrent .. After it has been a warrent for 5 years it is closed and the fine is writen off.. Now a $130 fine ends up being about $280.. and if you get court with in that time you could be sent to court and get extra added onto your fine or even jail.. Hope you are good at hiding for about 5/6 years just to get out of a fine..

Isn't there a state, maybe Tas, that the points do not come off until the fine is paid. No pay on points? Or was that TT/ACA BS?
Either way, why would you want to avoid it? 12 is heaps!

i always thought after 3 years, but to my horror found out it is not calculated this way at all, when i got letter in the mail informing me my liscence was suspended and i need to take 1 point for a year or lose liscence for 3 months( my choice)so what actually happens is you have to stay out of trouble for an actual 4 years to get 12 full points back.unfair but thats how it is.

In NSW, You get your points back 3 years from the date of offence..... if you get another infringment within that time then that also takes 3 years to clear..... it doesnt reset the clock it just means after 3 years each offence is cleared. I think that makes sense........ Well thats how it was for me 5+ years ago.
