Default recalibrate speedo?

hi all, i have just bought a xr6/8 instrument insert. as the standard hi seris has a 220klm speedo and the other a 240 i assume i have to get it re-calibrated. i have called a few intrument shops and they tell me that only ford can do it.! is this correct or does someone on the forum know how to do it?

The speedo should not need recalibrating if you replace the same series complete speedo assembly. it would if you just repalce the fascia.

If you simply took out the old cluster and threw in an XR unit it will be fine. If yo pull the cluster apart and mount a different face then thats different. You can get speedo correction units but usually they will only correct up to 6% unless you spend bigger dollars.

VDO will calibrate this for you. Costs around $80 to 100, from memory.
