To all those that think this is worth $75K, being rare does not automatically make it expensive.
It is missing one important thing.........DESIREABILITY |

I think investing in cars is not a real bright idea.
If you want it as a collectible, fair enough, but to make money it's silly. Anyone good at maths? What would have been a better investment, buying a brand new XY GTHO for $5.5k (that about right?) and selling it now. Or putting $5.5k in the bank in 1971 in a high interest savings account, adding each month what you would have spent on servicing and registering the XY, and withdrawing the cash now? And that's the car with the MOST increase of any car I can think of. While bank interest is probably the investment with the least return (but safest) compared to say shares or housing. Now if the original buyer of this LTD put $75k in the bank in 07' plus rego/insurance/service costs each year, what would he have now? |

My old man owned 3 Phase 3s and thought they were nuggets.
I wish he would have thought about keeping just one. So they were not a desirable car for him. all these years on...... :( |

If I was rich and stupid I would buy it just for the sake of it
...And that's the kind of person the seller is looking for. |

I wonder what the dealer that is selling it would offer you if you owned it with 3000km and went to trade it in. About half of the 75k he is asking!!!!
Why did Ford stop making them....because nobody was buying them. Why do people buy second hand Fairlanes and LTD's now? Because they are cheap and have really nice style and options, but as far as value holding compared to what they were worth new most are selling for less than the comparable Falcon sedan of that year model. Beautiful car but sadly, not popular and definately not any investment by any stretch of the imagination. And before the LWB fanatics crucify me, I have owned several over the years and really have a soft spot for them but unfortunately what I have said above is how most people see them and probably the reason Ford Australia stopped production. |

Yeah a dealer might get to 17 - 18 kay as a trade...
I think on the private market its only worth 30 - 35 max, and thats if you have the right buyer out there. Its no use to the limo car market as they are only allowed to run cars of a certain age (most places 6 years from manufacture date). If I had a heap of money I would buy it for 35 kay and just keep it parked up, it is a piece of Australian motoring history but not all that special or unique. I remember my dealer had a 2007 G8 which they could not sell in 2007, ended up letting it go for 42 kay (brand new)... That kinda puts the high value to misery. So whether this person paid 75 kay or not new is also questionable. |

It may have never been driven or anything but it has been registered so in buying it you still wouldn't be the first rego'd owner of it.
I wouldn't be paying anywhere even close to 75k for it

Great to see a brand new one, but for 75K I think it's a bit steep. 45K and I'd consider it.
I'd love to own it as part of a car collection, but besides being brand new it's not really anything that special and as soon as you drive it, it'd devalue like a lead balloon. Wonder how the exhaust/engine etc is? I should imagine it's been started and run a few times and all that condensation inside would surely have started the cycle of corrosion by now having never been driven with only 3 kilometres on the clock.

That's what I was thinking. From the mechanical point of view IMO one thats been driven regularly on longer runs (and serviced regularly) thats done something like 50,000 to 100,000kms would be in better condition.

WRONG In NSW there are no age limits at all, My partner is running 2 AU Fairlanes as hire cars the are both legal and HC plated they just have to be of a long enough wheelbase and/or the luxury car tax applied when new

I don't know about most, but I'd buy it. Just not at that price. 3000kays, last ltd made by ford, maybe $30,000 if I had the coin. Almost double what I could get one now at.
For $75,000 you talking classic gt money there. They are trying to sell to market that's not there.

75k for the last LTD is almost like that Phase III GT-HO that someone tried to sell for 1 million. The justification was that it was only one of two Phase IIIs still in existence (wrong) and Peter Brock was photographed inside it.
