Default Sick of car repairers mucking me about

Just lately I've had a bad run with the 2 family cars.
The wifes BA Futura (dedicated gas) has being having all sorts of probs, 1st visit changed the plugs, still playing up, book it again changed the coils, still having probs and now a strong smell of gas coming thru the air vents book it in again, 3rd visit, new gasket kit thru the convertor.

My XC 351 has been having a continual clunk from the front left, been to a suspension shop (won't say who but NO BULL) so many times and still not right and after their last effort I can hardly turn left it's that heavy. Been in 4 times and over $1500 spent. Each time I took it in it was always late getting back to me, once I took it in on a Wed promised a 1 day job, then sorry it'll be Fri then sorry not til Mon.

Now I'm getting 2 new mufflers and 2 new tail pipes fitted as I blew a great hole in a muffler.

They said have it there first thing in the morning which I did, explained I needed it back by 2pm, get a phone call about 1pm, wont be ready til 3.30pm, another call, having problems (how hard can it be, it's only the rear half of the exhaust) won't be ready until about 4.30.
Why do they insist on having the car there 1st thing and then start work half way thru the day only to find a problem.

It's such a pain organising lifts, taking time off work etc, I know its hard work in a mechanics shop but wheres the professionalism gone. I should be able to hit them up for a Taxi voucher.
Rant over : :

jaydee, i laugh at your ignorance.
This is a completely right winged view that just seems very predjudice.
I myself am a mechanic and have been for a while now. You have no idea the stress that we are under as mecahnics to have all the jobs done on time. They only asked for your car that early because there might be a chance that they might be able to get it done quickly but things go wrong all the time in the workshop. These may only be minor things but they add up and are very time consuming.
The exhaust was probably a little white lie to buy themselves some time. They can't say "oh no, we havent done it yet" for the same reason you're posting on this board.
And an XC 351, things are going wrong with it not because they're stuffing it up, but because its old. Maybe you should get a new car, correct me if i'm wrong but this is the 21st century.
try to be mroe considerate and not so naive next time you decide to make a post that no one wants to read about.

Thanks for your comments mech man.
As for getting into the 21st century I did mention I had a BA as well.
And if it wasn't for old cars you'd probably be out of business because they continually need up keep.

My comments my seem prejudice but it's not like it's happend once or twice, it's evey damned time so why can't car repairers just be up front and say "sorry mate, big job, I'll need it for a couple of days" or what ever.
If you muck your customers around they wont be coming back, I know I wont be.

By the way as this is your 1st post I suspect you're writing under a nom de plum (that means another name) because you don't wont to use your real profile name.

If not and it's really your 1st post, then welcome to Ford Forums and I'll think you'll find a lot of people like cars that aren't from the 21st century so you better be ready for some arguements.
Cheers.

regarding the original post, whether it be genuine or a stir. for jobs like tail pipe replacement i'd say i'd wait around for it. that way they don't leave it sitting for hours before getting to it. if they are then they need to have a look at there scheduling and how much time they allow for jobs.

most places i get work done don't promise something they can't deliver. if they can't fit it in, they will tell me they can't, instead of saying 'yeah we can do that' and then having to make that phone call late in the day saying they didn't get there.
