Took my car for a wash and the muppets used some sort of high shine plastic polish on the dash. It is now so shiny (black plastic dash on a holden cruze) that I cannot drive it in the sun without sunglasses.
I have tried wiping down with a dry cloth, a wet cloth, vinyl cleaner, interiro cleaner all with no avail. Any hints on how to remove this shine?. I don't know what product they used, but it has the same type of finish as "armorall", makes a normal plastic dash and interior plastics very very shiny. Any hints would be appreciated before I go and attack the dash with #40 sanding belt.

Just a normal house hold detergent in warm water rubbed vigorously with a microfiber will dull it off. May need to repeat to suit your tastes........Trikes

A good interior shampoo left to soak for 5 minutes should be able to break down any protective qualities left behind by any trim dressing. You may need to repeat the application to get rid of it all though.
I'd be wary of using a wax & grease remover-type product on plastics...same with household detergent - may actually take the colour out of the plastic...if you do use anything like that, make sure you test it first in a very inconspicuous area!

Word of warning guys, when you take your car in for a wash, make sure you understand what crap they use beforehand. Sure wish I could name and shame this place to stop anyone else suffering the same fate.

Or failing that, Wurth make an interior cleaner that leaves a matte finish.

I've used diluted metholated spirits to remove armorall before.
Once you get it off, use Aerospace 303 interior protectant. It's silicone free and leaves a matt finish; best stuff i've used.

Aerospace 303 is the only stuff to use... Don't use diluted metho on plastic it can make it go white!!...
Just rub aerospace 303 (Autobarn) into it for a few weeks, the shinny appearance will disappear....

Could always try some sugar soap & warm water. No it's not just soapy water with some sugar mixed in. Selleys Sugar Soap is used for cleaning tuff dirt & marks off & mildly dissolving grease before you repaint (household not vehicle), it's a very very mild abrasive too, so don't use it on your car paint for cleaning.

For the life of me I don't understand why car wash places think that gooey stinking cheap and nasty glossy dashboard look is apealing.
New cars do not come from the factory with shiny oily dashboards, they come with dull new looking dashboards. The only cars that have shiny dashboards IMO are your typical Hajeeb motors rebirth's or something from car city Rinwood... Hideous. I had my old Clio Sport detailed at one just before I sold it, and I told them under NO circumstances were they to touch my dash or interior with any silicone or armor all. Would you beleive that he just couldn't beleive anyone could possibly not want it, and had to confirm with me 4 times before begrudgingly agreeing to leave it out.... |

Lots of baby wipes (dont use no-frills , use huggies), then moist microfibre cloth, followed by aerospace 303.

Aerospace 303 is what I use to blacken plastics and the tarp on the utes. Isn't it milky white and a similar oily thing to armorall?

No. Dries to a satin/matt finish.
Apply with one cloth, then wipe over with another dry cloth.
