I replace my thermostat with a TT1-195
It did not look the same as the one in there, that had a disk down the bottom. Anyway before the temp was all ways far left now its about level with the N. so its running hotter now , is this ok. |

mine runs between N-O for short trips and O on long drive.
good idea to flush stuff around ever other year.

Running between the N and O is right where it should be.

Both my parents AU Falcons (AU series I sedan and AU series III Egas ute) sit on the “O” once the engine is warmed up. If you’re pushing the car fairly hard on a hot day (say 35ºC and above), the needle will hit the “R” mark. It will quickly return back to “O” once you start driving at speeds greater than 40km/h, or if you’re driving in bumper to bumper traffic, when the electric cooling fans kick in. The only time I’ve seen it hit the red mark was in the old mans AU III ute in Melbourne CBD bumper to bumper traffic. Luckily it only hit the red mark for a brief moment before old man reached his destination (Vic Market). Turns on the mechanic “forgot” to plug in the electric cooling fan connector at the last service! Upon reconnection, the cooling fans went nuts (ie both fans were on high speed operation) for a good 5 mins. That bought the engine temp down quick!! |

Just an update,
Put correct thermostat in au1 and petrol consumption has decreased by about 8%. Now getting 8.6km/ltr after three tank fulls, previously getting 7.4km/lt (City Driving) |

a tt1-195 thermostat isnt the bypass type required you should use a tt228-195 i use a tt228-192 from a saab which is bypass type exactly the same but is 192 farrenheight =89 degrees mine runs optimum with this thermostat but it will set you back close to $50 being that its for a saab you could try a high flow thermostat part number tt2000-195 that works well also note... these are all tridon part numbers as i only have the tridon thermostat book

Gidday all,
For what its worth I replaced my thermostat with a genuine Ford stock for AU3 SR AutoX Sedan Petrol 6cyl. And the temp gauge needle stays between N and O when at normal operating temp. Cheers |

I usually buy a generic thermostat according to the time of year....... this time of year I get the hottest thermostat I can get my hands on.

Yep ........ that's correct. All 4 AU's I have owned (2 x 6 cylinders & 2 V8's) the temp gauge sits between the N and O.
