Default Woohoo! New job

Hey guys

Landed myself a new job today working at Autobarn as a Mobile electronics Fitter. Getting paid to install stuff I do anyway :

My only worry is for a while now, ive only worked on Fords (lasers,Falcons, etc) and not many imports, etc. Last Holden I intalled a system in was my VC SLE (3yrs ago)

What I would like to know is, what kind of cars am I going to run into that are going to be a Pr!ck to install headunits in. I remember VL's being anoying

thanks

Everything is a ***** now days. No more visable screws holding stuff in, it's all clipped in with any screws under panels. Too bloody easy to scratch stuff. Go out and buy some plastic trim tools, don't get stuck using screw drivers, you'll everything.

Congrats too, I know you've been hard at it.

I read recently somewhere (maybe on these forums?) that airbags can be a danger. EG, there's an innocent looking wire behind the door skin but you need to snip it & re-route it so that you can fit a 6" speaker there... snipping that wire might cause a side airbag to go off, etc etc

So yeah, there's the whole "don't scratch the plastic" issue as Rob pointed out, and possibly safety/security issues by snipping wires that might need, umm, snipping.

Congrats on the job too mate! Maybe I'll come to you for help when I source an 8-track or record player or pianola roll that I want retrofitted in the EB ;)

Airbags are easy, pull the neg cable off the battery. Do it all the time, don't like the idea of loose seats flying around thanks to a deploying air bag.

Ahh ok, I didn't know whether the airbags ran a separate power system (like some car alarms).

I guess Mick's only PITA electrically will be pesky alarms that don't want to behave themselves!

Good stuff Mick! You'll look forward to installing on CE Lancers, but apparently VNs aren't much fun.

VN/VP's aren't too bad, i don't much like those early nineties camry's though... all the plastics overlap each other oddly :S and make for a long stint with the screwdriver

The BA falcon is a pain for aftermarket source units.

Hyundai Accent will require cutting the dash facia, because the stock head unit is round.

I agree with the alarms not behaving, mobile phone car kits as well that aren't amplified enough.

Congrats on the new job Mick. As for stereo installs, VS Commodore H/Us take about 5 times longer to install than it would in any EA-EL Falcon, you have to take alot of the dash apart and even some screws in the centre console so you can move it back a bit. The second time I did it, I was alot quicker but that first time was a especially in 42 degree heat!
