Hey i was reading through scans of old motor mags including one when the EA first came out.
In there it says something along the line of "The EA really needs the 4-speed .........the 3-speed will only allow the engine speed to build to around 2000rpm against the brake before the torque converter starts to slip, which means your not getting maximum torque off launch which occurs at around 3000rpm". In my EB with a 4-speed, with the throttle and brake to the floor, my car struggles to reach 1500rpm. Can anyone come up with suggestions as to why this may be so? |

In my old EA monty CFI 3 speed POS, it would just bog down at about 1700rpm and would not go any higher.
i have no idea why or how, it was just a heap of crap. and thats all that matters...

stall speed can be effected by torque, the 3 speed may have had a higher rated torque converter to that of the 4 speed.
my car can manage about 2000rpm on the standard stall, but i'd have greater torque then a stock EF so i it may be able to push it a little higher. i'd have expected a little more then 1500rpm from yours though.

So the reason for this is definitly in the auto? Its had a few issues recently including running on low fluid for ages and overheating once which could have messed with the torque converter.
I thought it might have something to do with the cat converter as the one on the car at the moment looks pretty poor, and can cause performance loss and often it will restrict rpm? |

I can get 2000 RPM off a standard tranny with the 4 litre donk.
That's all, after that it just wants to give up. |
