Default If you get failed in a rego inspection...

In NSw, if you get failed in a rego inspection, can you take it to another inspector to get it passed after repairs are made?
And when the car fails aren't you supposed to be given the pink slip with failed and reasons why? Because when my car was failed on saturday I wasn't given the pink slip, only the white RTA E-check prinout.

I'm not sure if they have to give you a copy but they should tell you why it failed. If they dont, how do you know what to get fixed.

As a matter of interest (I'm nosey) what did they knock you back on?

I'm pretty sure they've done away with the pink slip. Its all done electronically now with the info being sent straight to the RTA. Doesnt the E-check give reasons for failure?

They should give you a customer copy of the pink slip with the checklist of all items needed for the roadworthy. The items that failed will have the x and the ones that passed a tick. The shop that did it should have that copy there for you still

It was like this last year in Vic...not sure about other states

Most will tell you what needs doing and hold the paperwork so you go back.

In Vic,

We make people pay first cos to many ppl were getting a report, fixing the car and taking it elsewhere.
So either you loose the 55 quid, and go to another place if the 'current' place are being too fastidious.
or fess up and replace the little nick nacks like seatbelt thread (cig lighter) tighten consoles etc.

All in all most places will be reasonable as they're not going to f$%k you around for a mere 50bux.

Hi Guys

Your "white slip" should be identical to your "pink slip" and unless it's unreasonable , I think you must take it back to the same inspection station . This is to stop people going to heaps of inspection stations till they find a "dodgy" one that will pass it. When you've got all the repairs done , they'll give you your "pink slip" , also I think the RTA do spot checks on inspection station Pink slip books , so don't get caught out , it'll cost you and the inspection station .

If you think that the repairs are unreasonable , you can go to the RTA for an inspection , but expect this to be much more comprehensive than the inspection station.

I think this is right , please correct me if I'm wrong

Norm

A lot of places in NSW now use the computer print outs, if it fails they should give you a list of repairs, to be done. Some still use the old method of the triplicate copies if it fails they give you the white copy, which has the repairs needed listed on it, when it is fixed you have tp take it back and they make sure you fixed it then they put the white copy in the book again sign off the book and give you the pink copy. If you go some where else you are being charged for multiple inspections because they will all charge for an inspection and occasionally the RTA will get hold of a book see a unfinished pink slip in the book and will look up to see if car is still regoed and then come and visit you and re examine the car not only the repairs that were listed but any faults. They can also pick cars randomly out of the book and do spot inspections, one mechanic I knew had his liscence to inspect suspended for 12 months and fined, on a car he passed and when inspected was given a defect sticker, 2 months after the pink slip was issued

Thats how its done at my mechanics except you no longer get a "pink slip". You just get a copy of the "white slip" or E-Check with "PASS" written on it. The details are sent straight to the RTA so you dont have to present any slips when re-registering.

I do believe you have to take the car to the same place, people used to just go around till it passed or they got a samller list to fix, they now match the fact it passed at the same place to eliminate this. (was like that last I know of, but it's been a few years)

If you are failed for an inspection and you pass at another mechanic it is all recorded on the RTA system, they do checks if one particular shop is passing cars without doing work that is indicated on the initial fail.

Ultimately they will take the licence away from the mechanic.

I had mine fail once due to 2 tyres. He gave me a copy of the pink slip and said to have the tyres replaced. If I returned within 3 days he would not charge me for the 2nd inpsection. I went straight to the tyre shop got 2 new tyres put on and went back that arvo and got it passed. Nice and easy.

As has been said if they do not give you a copy of the pink slip how do you know what needs repairing.

Apparently Ive been told that you can go to another place if it is your usual repairer or other conditions change suitability e.g need to be in sydney at time of rego falling due etc.
But it only is effective if the next place does the repairs and does a secondary check of the vehicle to check all faults are repaired.
You cant just go around till someone passes it, it has to be actually repaired.

P.S I failed for apparently missing a hook flange on my shocks that the brake lines hook into. best part is its now going to be rectified by the dealer that originally done the work - hence the reason I can go elsewhere
