I didn't mean they would have planned to sell that many, i'm saying the original sales projections done during the later planning stages would have expectations around 7000 units to make back that billion dollars. They even said that themselves that the VE would have to sell very high numbers to make the development costs back. When the oil prices soured they would have cut those figures down. How they are going to make that billion dollars back is the big question as it will require large volumes.

And what helped make that good reputation in the first place was that it was originally a rebadged Suzuki Swift. These were good "little" cars in their day and are still sought after now.

Festivas on the other hand never really got a good following and probably wouldn’t be put into the "still sought after" basket today, even if they are good little runners.

Utility - 1,259 (1,399) -10.0%
Fairlane/LTD - 93 (206) -54.9%

Total - 6,333 (7,139) -11.3%

Ford - fully imported vehicles

Focus - 1,308 (1,297) +0.8%
Courier - 599 (598) +0.2%
Fiesta - 313 (431) -27.4%
Escape - 281 (160) +75.6%
Transit - 125 (251) -50.2%
F250 - 12 (152) -92.1%
Explorer - 5 (22) -77.3%
F350 - 1 (10) -90.0%
Econovan - 0 (67) -100.0%

Total - 2,644 (2,988) -11.5%

Local + imported = 8,977 (10,127) -11.4%


Ford's local models had another poor month which was expected considering the new models from Toyota and Holden. Ford's imported models had their first poor month in a long time with the only positive results being the Escape and Focus.

As to the dark side.........

Holden - Australian manufactured vehicles

Commodore - 5,262 (4,851) +8.5%
Ute/Crewman - 791 (1,826) -56.7%
Statesman/Caprice - 378 (269) +40.5%
Adventra - 187 (354) -47.2%
Monaro - 30 (299) -90.0%

Total - 6,648 (7,599) -12.5%

Holden - fully imported vehicles

Astra - 1,552 (3,056) -49.2%
Rodeo - 1,371 (1,927) -28.9%
Viva - 1,221 (185) +560.0%
Barina - 993 (704) +41.1%
Vectra - 110 (245) -55.1%
Combo - 74 (78) -5.1%
Tigra - 47 (46) +2.2%
Cruze - 2 (197) -99.0%
Zafira - 0 (19) -100.0%
Jackaroo - 0 (0) N/A

Total - 5,370 (6,457) -16.8%

Local + imported = 12,018 (14,056) -14.5%


First full month of VE sales. Easily the number one model for the month, best month for 2006 and an improvement over the corresponding month in 2005. But I was expecting better as Holden sold more then 7,000 Commodores in both September 2004 and 2003. Ute sales are surprisingly down by a big amount. New Statesman/Caprice models sold extremely well. For the imported models the Opel Astra is still outselling the Daewoo Viva and Daewoo Barina models.

71% of Ford vehicles sold in September 06 are Australian made.
55% of Holden vehicles sold in September 06 are Australian made.


For September 2006 the fuel types were as follows:

Petrol - 64,388 (83.5%)
Diesel - 11,224 (14.5%)
LPG - 1,322 (1.7%)
Hybrid - 218 (0.3%)

Total - 77,152 (2,841 heavy commercial vehicles not included)

For September 2005 the fuel types were as follows:

Petrol - 70,524 (86.4%)
Diesel - 10,123 (12.4%)
LPG - 793 (1.0%)
Hybrid - 185 (0.2%)

Total - 81,625 (2,815 heavy commercial vehicles not included)

Dedicated petrol powered vehicles lost almost 3% of their market share. All non petrol powered segments increased sales compared with September 2005. LPG market share has almost doubled from 1 in 100 vehicles to 1 in 59 vehicles.
