Why has ford Australia made the orion falcon launch so far away? The ve will of been out for 20months! Also there is still 17 months until it is on sale. Any comments? _2:

I think it has to do with Ford Australia getting their monies worth with the same dated looking chassis. In fact, they probably justified it by saying "Don't worry Bill, the VT commodore chassis was used by Holden for 9yrs...so we can do that at least."

It would be about 10yrs by the time the orion comes in...

Umm

Your question has been answered several times on the forums over time, but concept to reality is not a 4 month turnaround.

I am sure someone will explain the concept again, but I would strongly suggest trying to book yourself into the Factory Tours to see just what it takes to build a car from scratch.

Also the R+D time that goes into building a car.
Even then by the time it gets to market, the early ones still have issues.

It was always meant for 3/2008. Remembering that the AUIII to BA change was quite substantial.

even tho the holden may sell alot of cars...the longer it is before the new falcon the more they can watch the mistakes holden has made with the new commadores. Hoefully they are watching closely an look more at what toyota is doing instead. I personaly cant wait for the new falcon.

If Ford had announced the Orion for 2006, people would have been asking your question in 2005. Gawd it's going to a long 14-15 mths!

I can deffinately see a BFIII with a slight power upgrade now. Give it say 10 months, so they can get rid of all the old style chassis, before the new one comes out. Anyone else think this?

Personally if they said they needed till 2009, to get the car right, that would be fine with me. We don't need a repeat of the early BA quality issues, because they rushed the car into production.

Given the nature of the market now, this car has to be right from the get go and not a beta test for the next model. That would kill the Falcon quicker then a drop in sales of the BF series ever would.

Why does it have to be a B? It could be any one of 22 other letters of the alphabet...

Given that you seem to already know for certain stuff about it, why do you need to ask us about it? We should be asking you?

Pretty evident you have no real grasp of how much work goes into a car. Its a amazing how many people think that all it is is a couple of new panels, new trims and some new wheels - a LOT more to it than that.

With the latest Wheels mag there is a DVD all about how Holden R+D'd the VE. Now at risk of bringing VE into this, Id suggest you watch that, it really is an eye opener as to just how much time, effort and money goes into develpment long before you see them on the road.

The 08 Falcon is all but complete, now they need to build it.
Not just one but a whole heap of them to get the manufacturing side of it right, than to test that the entire car works and nut out problems of the test mule as only testing bits and pieces as they have been doing may not show arising problems(there was a BA with the Orion front running around Campbell field a fortnight ago, but no one would have noticed if you actually didn't see it before). From these problems you work out what is worth fixing and whats worth letting the customer get fixed at warranty.
But from what I have been hearing Ford seem to designing the car for the customer/market like the BA was. Now all they need to do is get it right on the assembly line.

I personally think the BF was too short lived..

BFII was bought forward to fight VE but now ford has kinda run out of tricks.

BFII doesn't appear to be selling too bad concidering the age of the platform, the release of the 380, VE, Aurion etc. And territory volume helps. Orion hopefully should be a big step up again. 5 star safety, rear doors that open, cohesive styling, quality improvements, better aero, new technologies and a large range of incrimential powertrain improvements.

I also reckon they'd kept the date long enough to evade the current parts manufacturer dispute especially with the VE production line hit hardest with companies that they rely on for their parts on the verge of going bust...

Gives them time to sort out problems like this and if worst comes then they'll source another parts manufacturer.

Just like the introduction of BA's, the Orion will hopefully WOW us again...

Supercharge it to get an extra 30 odd kW's? What a waste of $$ that would be? If you were after an extra 100 or so kW's, yeah that would probably make the $$ worth it....
There will be no supercharged version for a fair while as the development $$ are very high.....

How much weight would a complete supercharger package (inc intercooler) add to the front end of a V8 Falcon?
