Default steering dramas

Re the other thread I started on the weekend - PS fluid was really low so I topped it up and made sure it was right. It hasnt been leaking, been keeping an eye on it, but I find now that if Im turning left (yes only left) around 40-50kms, Im getting a grinding sort of sound coming from the car. I've checked the tyre pressures, switched over the rims, checked the wheel nuts and made sure there's nothing hitting the wheels etc, but its still there. Any ideas on what it could be? Almost sounds like something's loose?

My s3 XR8 sedan does this as well so if any one has ideas that would be awsome. I have looked and looked and cant seem to find anything rubbing.

could you be a bit more specific on where the noise is coming from, ie front, rear, left, right, etc...that may help a bit, as it could be anything

this is what I was talking about with the noise Austin- probably air in the system?

Or you p/s pump is now cactus.

I would bet that the noise will go away, but I would be replacing the P/S fluid with the right stuff, remembering the recommended stuff is a light hydraulic oil or specifically Castrol Syntrans manual transmission oil.

Keep an eye on it mate, but it could just be air....... Just seems conicidental that it's after you topped the reservoir up

sounds like air lock turn wheel full lock and hold it there a few seconds 3 or 4 will do(you'll hear the releif valve scream but thats ok) repeat in the oposite direction do this left right cycle 6 or 8 times if problem is still there then do it again but 12 to 14 times that will get rid of the air lock

The other possiblitly it could be is your diff fluid. If your car has an LSD, you might need to add some LSD fluid to the diff.

I had this exact same problem. Got a grinding (and/or clicking/clunking) noise a low speeds when steering...
Easier to fix too then a power steering issue...
