I recently fitted thanatos's old tailpipe to my car (mmmm dumppipe)
I noticed that when my car is running the middle muffler seems to have a wierd rattle sound, like its full of sand? Could this just be from my old cat that colaptsed or could it be stuffed? Thanks (Intermediate piece is a 'off the shelf' Redback 2.5" Mandrel bent straight thru)

My stock exhaust used to rattle, when I took it off, huge chunks of rusty metal fell out which I assume were the guts of the muffler.

well the thing is I took the intermediate piece off and it didnt appear to rattle...
But while the car is running sounds like there is a small amount of sand rattling about inside it

could be a very slight exhaust to body work rattle.
my wagon used to sound like the muffer was rattling took it to an exhaust place and they heated it up and moved it a little, was quiet as then |

one other thing, I fitted Thanatos's old 'straight thru' tailipipe and the exhaust sounds good but its quite close to the spare wheel well. Like amost a 1cm away. Is this something to worry about?

Don't rip the heat shielding off the cat, it helps it work properly.
Just get under the car and bash things until you figure out where the noise is coming from exactly. |
