Hi Everyone,
Just a heads up to anyone else with a LS XR5 - had mine back to the dealer today as the power steering failed over the weekend (dumped the fluid into my driveway twice). Not a pleasant experience in the middle of a corner! Spoke to the service manager this afternoon and after he said it should've been picked up when it was serviced (to which I replied they were the last to have it when the oil pump was replaced) he mentioned that it might be affected by the recall. Apparently it's very recent (nothing on the ford website as yet). One of the hose clips is faulty, which means it comes loose and you lose all the fluid. Might want to give your respective dealers a call and get it checked out. I'll be asking why the recall hasn't officially been released and getting more details when I pick the car up tomorrow. Will post if I get anything important. Still love my XR5 despite the fact that this is the 2nd time it's been towed in (2 months ago the oil pump blew up and it was in the workshop for almost 2 weeks). Cheers, Kez

There has been a recall on the power steering in the LS XR5. It was noted over on www.fordxr5turbo.com a while back, but it appears Ford haven't been too keen on releasing full details to everybody.

Thanks heaps for that link I had no idea the fault was known that long ago! I now have some leverage when I go in tomorrow and ask for them to pay for the towing - they had the car in July and should have known about this and checked it out then.
I love my Ford and would never have anything else, and mostly the dealer service has been great, but unfortunately it's the bad experiences that we tend to remember. Hope no one else has this problem!

Might be worth posting tips on how to identify the fault, I.E. photos of the new clip on how it's supposed to look so future buyers and current owners can check to see if its been fixed seeing as ford are, at the moment, reluctant to spread the word....
Wow, i may just have said something useful on this forum rather than butting in with useless puns and recollections in an attempt to be funny. My old VL did this on my front lawn, took two years for the patch grass to grow back. (ahh, there it is)

In fact if I remember correctly they even had one let go in a long term test car that Wheels Mag had a year or two ago! On the bright side at least it was power steering fluid Kez, because in the Golf's case it was a fuel line... and I've heard of cases where it has let go of almost the whole tank of fuel in peoples garages :togo: OUCH |
