Just wondering if anyone has fitted a front screen latley for a xy falcon. Was thinking a moran but maybe a protector screen. Just wondering if anyone has had any drama's with some of these chinese screens?

i havent seen the chinese glass ( hadnt even heard of it but i`m sure it would be out there) . but for the price of a windscreen i think i would be sticking with australian made glass.

our local made products from "protector " etc have long been concidered of very high quality and amongst the world leaders in auto glass.

something to look for in your new screen is distortion. have a look through or along the glass on a lot of cars and you will see what i mean. look at a straight line through the glass and it will look wobbly.

also some glass is very soft and scratchs easily. a lot of european glass is like this. when i was window tinting i would never use a scraper on european glass.

Chinese glass is really poor quality. It is too easily scratched, I would try protector windscreens first. All the glass they use is Australian Made

Good Luck finding an aussie made XY screen. Those of you who are suggesting Protector glass industries are aussie made, sorry but things have changed in the last few years :(

I too fit glass supplied from Novus and have had no dramas at all

the point here is '"supplier"

A few years ago a mobile fitter came thru town ,fitted a few screens and then bolted, the screens used were apparently imported privatly(?)
and thus were not compliant to aus. standards.and looked it with distortions and size issues,as well as dodgy fit too
By using a reputable supplier you would (should) get an approved screen.
and if not ???

COMPLAIN

as fataxgt said .no more aussi made glass(another one bites the dust...)

Protector glass do still make windscreens here, in Queensland, just not for XY Falcons. Only low volume stuff and all Kenworth Screens. When ordering an XY screen beware the crappy black ceramic band around it. Looks NASTY!

Thanks Guys, Yeah they are all made in tawain or china now.
Fatxagt, what do you mean by the black band. Is that around the entire edge? What do you actually look out for?
Cheers.

Like modern cars some of the chinese glass has a thick black band around the outside edge. IMO it looks terrible.

The black band is so the windscreen fitters can go to town on the back goo. The days of having a nice bead of windscreen silicone is gone and allows screens to be fitted in minutes .... not a great look for a 70's car I rekon
