Is there a difference between (//) and (/)? I ask because I thought that (/) meant "State Limit" and there is a section of road south west of Brisbane still marked that way.

[QUOTE=flappist]Well no it is not actually the same at all.
Full time race tracks are short, only have short straights to allow high speed and are not built out of the same materials or comply with the same standards as roads as opposed to part time tracks like Mt Panorama etc.QUOTE] Race tracks like Phillip Island and Sandown both allow standard street cars speeds of over 200kp/h

It was a simple miswording, seriously. We've established that.
What seperates you from "hoons" or "speeders" The fact you did it on a road with no speed limit signs? What's the difference, really. I'm sure you would have "driven fast" for the same purpose someone would "speed"

240ish in 993 turbo(not mine, owner as passenger) in NT. Not sure if doing that was wise for a 19 Y.O. gave me a feeling that my wallet has been chasing for years since!

I did a trip in 2004 to The Alice in a RWD SY Territory. Just for fun, I had a little drive to the north of town. I agree with other posters; the adrenaline rush from 10 minutes at 180kph is amazing.
My daughter has bragging rights amoung her friends as she managed to get it to 140kph while on 'L' plates during the same trip! |

Anyhow, I live in the NT for quite a few years and ran the speedo of the grid a few times.
On one interesting occasion I was driving an early 4 speed Tojo in excess of 150kph, felt a bit of a thump, and watched the left rear go past us up the table drain.

NT roads
VX commo LS1 230ish speed limiter.. ducati 996s 255ish flat out.. irony; last year when just cruising in NT i normally do 120/125 kph, now with the speed limit 130kph i tend to do that as not to hold ppl up and be a nusence.

I have only ever driven 110km/h on NSW roads in my old BF XR6 Ute. Although this one time... at band camp..... my limiter kicked in at 197km/h.......legally though..... ;)

Sat on about 200km/h for about 1/2 an hour before dropping back to save some fuel. Weird thing was it was very unhappy between 170-175, had massive vibrations coming through the shifter, dont know if it was a tailshaft or what, but it only did it in that small range over that it was smooth as silk.
The missus wasn't to keen on that speed either :( Interseting note: The XR8 was pulling great economy at 130 compared to her Suzuki Swift which was chugging along at about 4500rpm at 130 and chewwing the fuel! Oh and another funny and quite possibly very dangerous story. Army Landrover and trailer - very long downhill heading onto a very long straight stretch of highway... off the clock (150km/h) very floaty at that speed! |

Sat on 205 legally in my old RS182 Clio for a while. Had the thing pushing an indicated near 240 before I backed off and settled round 200-210.
Was just beyond all comprehension how solid she felt at that speed. Such a credit to the Renaultsport chassis engineering. Felt better at 200 than what she did at 100. Cracker of a little thing. The utes I don't tend to push. I know what they can do, it wouldn't surprise me to know what they do and besides, I have not had a legal opportunity to push them (same dealio with the RS250). Dan |
