Hey Guys,
When i was replacing the extractors yesterday i managed to crossthread two of the bolts, i took it to my exhaust bloke n he told me that both of them would have to be drilled and tapped and that if they were really ad he would have to use helia coils to fix the damage (ty aluminum heads) which are apparently pretty expensive. Does anyone know if this is true and if i would be able to pick them up for a cheaper price elsewhere? |

I can't see heli coils costing more than a few dollars. Don't know how much he will charge for labour tho.

do it yourself, tapping and drilling is **** easy (done it all the time at my old work) except for the whole depth stops and all that so maybe not

If the head is off the engine they're simple to do. You drill an oversize hole, tap it with the special tap supplied, and thread in the insert. A kit will be about $60 or so.
Doing it with the head in place will be harder, since you won't have much clearance, and keeping the drill and tap straight will be harder as well. |
