I do this often, I know the camera is there so slow well up, wombat tailgater, usually driving a commodore with P plates floors it and swerves around me giving me the finger and gets his picture taken.
I have never got one in this situation and have seen many flashes of the car beside me.

Remember this is a Qld question from the OP...other states may differ.

How exactly do you determine what is or isn't a speed camera if you don't pay attention to them. I suggest you go away and rethink what you write.

Tonight on the federal highway just before the merge with the Hume I observed something reflective on the side of the road up ahead. As I got closer I noticed there were 2 reflective something a distance apart. It was then obvious to see a speed camera car with yet another reflective sign. Anyone who got done deserves it as it was so clearly identifiable as something that shouldn't be there.

Unfortunately some in this thread have clearly stated they wouldn't notice a speed camera. For the rest of us road users it won't be a big worry as they will soon be walking.

This from the person who in his own words does not pay attention when driving.

In QLD police are using a system called trucam which I think is operated like a laser type device. I think they're are hand held and you would not even see a van so don't beat yourself up for not noticing Superfly.

I've met Scott about 8 years or so ago when he came to a WRX club meeting. The thing that worries me is that if I fight it and I loose, it will cost me more. $146 is bad enough, I don't really want to pay more. And I currently have 12 points so I'm not in need of points either.

I will pay the fine and loose the 1 point. Thanks for everyone's input![/QUOTE]

If you were to lose i court you don't have to pay anything else at all,
you just have got to pay for the original fine.

You can just give Scott a call and he will be able to tell you,
plus get yourself a copy of the aussiespeedingfines.com book and they have so much info inside there that you can use to help you fight you case as well.

Are you sure about that? I've always been told that if you loose in court, you'll also have to pay the court fees.

Either way, I've paid the fine now as it certainly looks like I was in the wrong.

Court fees are not much, but you also have victim levy in some states to pay as well. I've seen magistrates lower the fine but with court fees and victim levy the total = original fine, if the argument was worthy.

People get distracted for a huge range of reasons, it doesn't mean they are bad drivers or deserve what is to happen next! So in some instances the person does deserve some sort of leniency! Not everyone is perfect, after all we are only human.

In act and nsw the victim compensation fund is partly funded from a levy on all guilty verdicts. Doesn't matter what the offence is. There may be exceptions, but traffic offences aren't amongst them.

When you go to court your speed camera fine will be sentence with all the other crime,
like drug dealer or some cases other people from different jail.

You can ask the Judge what sort of case he is talking about and he will say you have committed a crime,
you say what crime did i committed he will say you get caught for going through a speed camera???

You can say as far as you know for this to be a crime there need to be a victim first,
so who is the victim here you honor may i ask?
