Yep, you push search to scroll through the functions. Average consumption is one of features.

No you don't, the trip computer was available on the luxury models, or those who made the conversion. However there is something that you can do to your cluster display I think so you can access this information.

whats on the Cluster where the odometre is, isnt called the trip computer.
from memory you can get instantaneous fuel consumption on that in diagnostic mode. the trip computer is an addon unit that goes near the demister switch etc. can be added to an EL GLi fairly easily if you ever feel the need

I get about 350ks out of a tank in Ed Fairmont, mostly city driving. I just got back from QLD I towed a rally car up and back for rally QLD and got 250k to a tank sitting on 110-120 the whole way.
I was getting 280ks to a tank just normal driving then replaced the OX sensor got it back up to 400ish but its gone back down to 350. |

It's defiantly worth adapting a trip meter if you can get one cheaply enough, very handy to have that information a button press away. As long as it's accurate, anyways.
I've been getting 525kms out of a tank in my EB Fairmont, pushing it pretty much to the ends of the tank though. That's about half highway and half city driving (does the monash count as highway? ), used to get a little more, but tired of driving like a granny! |

Whilst you've dug it up, I've just replaced the O2 sensor so I'm expecting better fuel economy...... Fingers crossed.

I get great fuel economy. I drove from Robina after filling up to Logan central (about 40km) then from there to home (about 300kms) and then drove from home into town (another 55km) and had only used just over half a tank. I have a EA Wagon with a 72L tank.

Put up you tyre pressures,
remove your roof rack and other sh^t hanging off in the wind remove un neccasary weight from the car......mother-in-law and whinging girlfriends should be first on the list Accelerate lightly and coast as much as possible. Load is what kills fuel economy. |

My trip computer says my average is 11.4 litres/100 kms and I get about 600kms out of a tank so that seems about right. My car is completely stock and I do a lot of freeway driving so they may be good reasons why

Like others said, if u are serious about saving fuel, you MUST get a T5 manual. Also unrestrictive exhaust makes a big difference!!! I found that when i got the XR head put on, my fuel economy was fantastic. Im currently getting 9-10L/100kms mixed driving. Yes i drive conservitively. Main reasons why my economy is good:
1. Manual. 2. Unrestrictive air intake/exhaust. 3. PULP. (very clean injectors) 4. Easy on the pedal. Brent
