Ok reading another form a person killed the engine in his low K Ford Ranger PX still under new car warranty
After some time the ford people worked out what went wrong and supplied a new Ford ranger engine but he looses his original warranty on that part and only ends up with 12 Month warranty on the engine I am not sure why they do not continue with his present warranty or give him 3 years as it is a new car with 40k on clock I will say one good thing ford payed out and gave him a hire car a positive start any way Thanks I hope this is in the correct place.

maybe because its a dealer fit rather than factory? Warranty on dealer work is usually only 12 months

I think Ford have got that wrong, It should still be covered by the factory warranty.
unless, are there any circumstances that would have made them come to an agreement?

aprox 2 years I will look into that
but why give 12 months on the engine it should be like a new car 3 year but I suppose Ford have you over a barrel when it comes to what they offer in the way of warranty and service

I think legally the original purchase warranty continues.

I would imagine the consumer laws would protect him for longer than that given warranty anyway

Ford took some time and worked out a rubber hose split ie they paid it out because it was a faulty party
no fault of the driver or what he had done

I had a Ford dealer refit a new engine from the factory (within first 12 months of ownership) and it wasn't limited to 12 months warranty.
Just continued with the original 3 year warranty. If the engine was to fail again outside the 12 month term but inside the original 3yr warranty I would doubt Ford would refuse to honour it. If they did he would have a good case to argue. |

I imagine Ford would argue that the car should have been stopped when the warning lights came on. even if its their fault the hose wore. this would have stopped any engine damage. hence they came to a compromise. I'm not sure about the rangers engine, but it takes a fair bit to cook one these days

But even with that compromise, I think Ford would still be liable if anything else happened under new car warranty.

Off topic..but funny
I remember a case many years ago of a video tape with a "life-time warranty", when a claim was made because the tape stopped working the claim was rejected as the tape no longer worked it's life-time had expired and was as such out of warranty... But I eexpect that in this case the new engine would be warranted until the expirtion of the vegicles 3 year warranty, I foubt Ford could argue anything else. At the same token if they replaced the engine (under wrranty with no cost to the owner) in the last month of the vehicle's three year warranty period, Ford would not have to provide a further 12 months warrany on the engine. (but happy to be corrected on that) |

it was not the water hose some thing to do with the turbo
dealer and the confirmed manufacturing defect. He said a seal on the pump failed so I asked what they need to do. He said they need to change the pump and the engine. ok I lost the post so here is the link http://newranger.net/forums/viewtopi...ranty&start=40
