Default Problems fitting ED XR headlight grille on ED GLi

Hi all,

I have recently aquired an ED XR headlight assembly (lights, indicators and grille) to put on my ED GLi wagon. When I removed the headlights to test fit the grille, the first thing I notice is that there are NO holes at all to mount it! I assume I will need to drill out holes in the radiator support rail for the top mount, and that doesnt bother me so much.

What the main issue is, is that the bottom mount of the grille (the 10mm bolt cast into the plastic of the grille) has no where to go at all? It just sits out with no where to mount it on!

Is there another bracket that I need to put this lower mount on? Am I just missing where it actually goes? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,
there is a metal bracket that you are missing. it would be simple to make. It is simply a straight flat piece of metal that bolts in between the bumber and the body (on the 2 front bumper monuts. It then sticks up and there is another hole for the grill to bolt into. Getting the nuts on and off is a bit of a bugger as they are in a tights spot. I can scan the page out of the workshop manual if you need it... Cant take a pic as I wouldneed to remove my grill to do it...

The Brackets you require are STILL available from Ford as are the Harness connectors to fit the lights to the original Harnesses.

bdennis - I have the EA-D factory manual also, but I couldn't locate where this bracket you talk about is, what page is it on? I will have a look and just fabricate one up. The standard loom will just plug into the headlight plug wont it? They didn't appear to be different at all!

I suppose I could get those parts from Ford if they are cheap.

polyal - Damn, I wish I had known you had a white one before i got mine, I need one in stark white! but alas, I have two XR grilles, I should just not be lazy and spray one up lol

Chris, the brackets are a straight piece of steel, the bolt between the bumper and the chassis rail.
They are about 200mm long and have holes for the two bumper bolts, and teh grill bolt.
That is all they are.
I made a set for the XR front i sold out of 1.5mm sheet metal.

The aluminium will be prone to cracking through vibration over time.

Will have a look for the page number tonight. It was not a very good pic. Sounds like you have the info you need re the bracket.
Re the wiring loom. As long as you have the small loom and plug set that connects the low and high beam lights together, the std loom will plug in just fine.
