Question EF Thermo Fan Problem

Hi, I've got an EF XR8 and have noticed that she's been getting a bit warm in traffic. Had the cooling system flushed, pressure tested, new hoses and thermostat changed. This solved the problem somewhat (radiator 40% blocked) but it still gets hot in traffic after a good run down the freeway. It looks like the thermo fans only ever run on low. Even when when AC is on flat out and the fans should be screaming she still only runs on low. Infact, I don't think in the 2 years I've owned the ca it's ever run on high!! Didn't casue a problem till now because it's only recently it's been driven any great distance on a regular basis.

Anyway, if I feed power straight into the fan it runs on high. It all seems to be connected up correctly and I've had an auto sparky check the relays and they've come back fine. Any ideas on what else to check or what the problem could be??

it should be your high/low speed control or relays. thats all it could be. the sparky should have picked up on something.

OK, I've replaced the relays anyway dispite being told they were ok and the fans now seem to operate correctly.... when the air con is on - for a while. When I switch the air con on boost, they fire up when the motor is hot for 30 seconds or so and then drop back down to low.

So it's gotta be the temperature sensor telling the fans that the motor is cool and the fans aren't needed. My question is, does it read from the same signal as the temperature guage or is there a separate reading? Given how hot it's getting I think it would have to be a separate signal but I can't find where the sensor is located.

Cheers

The thermos are always on low as a minimum. When I turn the air con on they step up a touch and pull more air than when the air con is off. They run flat out for 30 sec or so when I turn the air con onto boost when the motor is warm but then drop back to the lower air con fan speed setting after that.
