Default So, you want a radar gun?

From The Weekend Herald (Newc edit), Sat, 11 March 06.

A radar gun that enables kids to act like speed cops for less than $40 is Australia's new toy of the year.

The hand-held plastic gun, which will be released in Australia in June, allows children to clock the speed of their toy cars or see how fast they can run.

The Hot Wheels Radar Gun beat hundreds of other toys and gadgets to take out the top prize at the annual Australian, Toy, Hobby, and Nursery Fair in Sydney yesterday.

"It is a real working radar gun so kids can measure the speed of their toy cars as the're racing around the track" Mattel spokesman Kent Cuthbert said.

"They can also measure anyhting around them like a bicycle or a car driving by". Mr Cutherbert acknowledged that some parents might be concerned about their children playing with a toy gun, but said the Hot Wheels Radar Gun was for measuring distance and speed. "It is just for measuring speed", he said.

"It really lets kids interact with their toys and the environment around them.

Story shows a pic.

So, I wonder then if this rivetting item has Australian Communications Authority license:-)

Probably light/laser based, dunno.

Interest gadget!

I must get one of these so I can measure how fast I get the fork from plate to my mouth!

I'm not sure if it can register speeds of that magnitude....

Well, I'd not put it past some "progress association" or "residential action group" types from using the 'toy' as a basis for speed-control action when nagging Councils.

Oh little faith have I.

When he said "fork" he meant straw, and when he said "plate" he meant schooner glass.

Can it measure how quickly I can dodge responsibility around the house?

Cheers, Danny

Can it also measure the speed at which people avoid me? J/k
Seems like a good toy for the little ones, hope it doesn't resemble one to much. Might freak a few drivers out

Or the speed at which the spanner connects with the garage wall after you skin your knuckles after it shears it off.

Hey if you buy $30 of hot wheels "stuff" you get the radar gun free. So its cheaper than buying it outright plus you get hot wheel goodness.

"In other news Victorian Police have announced the deployment of 200 additional handheld radar units."

Probably more accurate than some of their fixed speed cameras
