That is some find!
I think because it has been untouched, unrestored and one owner it little garner a lot of interest at auction.

I find the following also interesting...

"Ford Motor Company told the Gosford museum that the original owner of this car was actually meant to be legendary driver Alan Moffat – presumably to use at Bathurst – but he never took delivery of the car, leaving the anonymous WA buyer to snap up the muscle machine."


And also... (I thought I was the only OCD person that did this )

"The original owner was so fastidious that he kept hand-written personal journals – separate from the official logbooks – that recorded every time a spanner was used on the car and even every time he washed it".

Of course these cars are iconic but we over value these things mightily. No one outside our shores know or care much about such cars.

There is enormous down side to purchasing these cars, your money would be much safer in a Shelby Mustang or Aston Martin with world wide appeal.

It feels to me sometimes that prices paid for high end GTs or Monaros or Chargers is a big dick competition.

In a practical sense I would want a car I can use, not one laid up for 35 years.

I'm not questioning passion, I'm passionate about things that are meaningless to others too.

But the risk of not getting a return on your purchase of this car high.

I am amazed at the quality of the cars at Gosford, a mate of mine sold a Volkswagon without much haggling on the asking price.

The owner says everything is for sale there and good luck to him for having the resources to put the collection together and the courage to put things back on the market at a significant premium.

Obvious side scoops are junk, but the wheel caps and spotlights seem to be non original. The extractors and black painted sump? What is that thing below the ignition?

If you're referring to the little lever with the black press button beneath the ignition switch, it looks like a PBR vacuum trailer brake control.

This thing has probably had a hard life towing. The rear photo shows a Hayman-Reece type towbar coupling & the vacuum fitting.

You'll note that they don't show any under-bonnet shots.

Is in very good condition and its a Phase 3 which was the fastest.

Originals are getting rarer and rarer these days.

Don't like the XA/XB scoops but the rest is great!!!

Agreed, the side scoops absolutely turn me off. Couldn't really imagine they came on it from the factory. Think i'll keep my money in the bank for now. lol

its an average ph3 form a concourse point of view(which is where the value is for those of you looking at measuring a return) worth what someone is willing to pay. original unrestored ph3 much better than this car have changed hands for less money. this one has been promoted to the hilt and having looked at the car, from a purist point of view its not worth that coin imho but each to their own. love the colour hate the scoops and the bull**** accompanying the advertising of the car. the point above about passion not having a value is a valid one but for most of us $1m gross (=500k gross) is just over the top. the timing of the auction close to the Bathurst event and also the media exposure the blue ph2 in wa on free to air is a good thing for us guys with classics though whether they are futuras falcons fairmonts or gt falcons

As long as the VIN/Engine numbers are all matching with the owners books etc its still a good 'original' find!

Took me a bit to get past the side scoops and the ''everything on this Falcon has been left alone", but if this is a matching numbers unrestored 100k km P3 then it's probably gonna pull some serious $ - not sure about 600k though.

No engine bay pictures, that sucks.

Ohh and I'm trying to think why he parked it in the early 80's. Only thing I can come-up with is that somebody bought him an Atari, Game Over.

theres a reason for no engine bay pictures as the engine bay is the worst part of the car. DNA of such cars lies in the floor pan and engine and the engine bay itself.....

I hear you but at this price point there is no reason you cant drive it the way you want whether its unrestored or looks like its fallen out of a grease gun...in fact its probably easier to do to a fully restored example as replicating patina is difficult to say the least.

If you print up a load of these stories in mags, et al. Then toss it all on social media, the whole thing will go bananas, then you throw it into an auction and all the festering wallets will open a little wider......

Amazing barn find and all, but it was this pic that stood out for me... seeing the black keyholder wallet that I recognise as the type my dad used to use way way back.

I think I might have to find myself one.... (I wonder if he still has his?)

My old man had one of these too.
I walk around with about 15 keys in pocket at all times, I'm going to see if I can find one as well, sick of getting stabbed in the legs every time i sit down.
