Default After market Chrome wheel trim

Have bought a second set, as first set tarnished and rusted very quickly, can I spray these with clear...will that help log life better?

It will completely protect the chrome but it will appear to be touch more dull than straight chrome. Plus side is you do have to maintain or polish it like chrome, it will be as simple as looking after car paint.
