& when you recover from your heart attack from ringing ford, try an auto eletrician or a wreckers.
They quoted me $550 for a Courier muffler, got one fitted elsewhere for $120

Having worked in Ford Spares before I can tell you I wont be getting one from there. I'll see my mechanic on Monday.

Out of warranty since the end of last yr, unfortunately this car is just making me want to get rid of it more and more. I think if something else kinda major goes wrong with it, I will trade. I can't afford (and shouldnt have to) keep replacing bits!

I wanted to update this post as a bit of a service to you guys - check your alternators!

If you're familiar with the layout of the engine bay, you'll know that the alt is in a real bugger of a location - right up the back under the power steering.
Mine is cactus, has been playing up and finally gave up on me yesterday, and just my luck it was in peak hour traffic. Had to baby the car with all warning lights going, cluster not working and barely moving to an auto elec, he pulled the alternator off after 1.5hrs of trying to get it off (!), and told me it is stuffed.

Now the fun part, nobody makes an alternator for Foci other than Ford, and have a guess what the retail price of one of these babies is.

Wait for it.........

$470.00!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and did I mention that DOESN'T include fitting?!
Do yourselves a favour and check your alternator with a multimeter, the dealers here have had to apparently replace 5 in the past 6 months, and at over $600 by the time you factor labour in, it can be a very expensive headache. They're non servicable units too, so if it stuffs up, has to be replaced in its entirety. Not fun.

Methinks it may be time to buy that SP23 I've always wanted........:
