Hey guys, sorry if this has been covered before but I could not find anything relevant from the search funtion.
Well last night someone broke into my car via the drivers-side back door with it seems a screwdriver, and all the doors seem to have been attacked with a coat hanger! I have seen the RACV got into my car in 20 secs by pushing the back window in with assistance to pop the back lock open...... Is it possible to pry the door open with a screw driver? Thankfully, there was nothing stolen, perhaps the very bright interier light took them by surprise! I live on a main road in an area which would be considered a low-moderate car break-in suburb. However this is not the first time someone has been trying to break into my car. I am now considering geting a car alarm but I don't no where to start and how much they cost, can someone please guide me in the right direction? thanks heaps oh yeah i have a 94 ED Futura Classic with smart-lock

how much would a factory alarm fittted from an ED cost?
or am i better off goin to autobarn,strathfield and alike stores?

Yes they can. Screw driver and coat hanger.
Don't waste ya money on a factory alarm, go for quality aftermarket.

would a budget of $300 get a decent aftermarket alarm system?
what do you have in yours?

There is plenty of extras that are good for bragging in front of your mates (ie remote start) and some to prevent theft. Black wire, code hopping, minimum two immobilisation and two siren (inside and outside). I'm not a fan of the vibration sensor as you have heaps of false alarms.

I have read a few topics that have been posted in fordmod.com and was just wondering about the Kill switch, i mean is it worth getting one? and for what, fuel, battery etc. It appears that even the smartlock security system has its floors!

Smartlock wasn't even any good in 1992!
I have a kill switch also. A mate has two plus his alarm. Basically you can isolate ECU, Coil, Starter and fuel pump. Any 2, 3 or all of these.

an alarm is even good just as a scare tactic.
less chance of them trying anything if there is a sign of an alarm. kill switches are basically there to prevent your car getting pinched, won't stop anyone stealing anything from it, but still a VERY worthy addition to any security system.

Speek to "sphell" as he fits alarms for a living, so should be able to point you in the right direction, if not fit you out with one at a good price.

i have a kill switch on mine... all my freinds keep asking me where it is and i wont tell them... i find it a bloody good addition in my ea its just sometimes i forget to switch it back on to the mode that lets the car run...
when u get the alarm kill switch fitted dont tell anyone..evenur freinds \ family...... cos the less people that know that one is fitted the better... cos if a freind braks in just to s@it u they will get a massive fright |

Thank for all your help, i've been to a few places, some of which have no idea, and tell me that they can't find a way to get around the smartlock! (Geelong Car Sound) so i didnt bother asking what they had.
I don't have a huge budget as i'm a uni student but i've narrowed it down: Strathfield - Cyclops upgrade alarm $279 installed with glass breakage sensor with no shock sensor JB Hifi - can't remember brand name but they had an upgrade alarm with shock sensor for $320 installed or $370 with glass breakage sensor Len Day (Geel) - Viper upgrade alarm $450 installed all of these have an extra imobiliser assuming to use that as the kill switch Would the glass breakage sensor detect the glass breaking if a towel is held against the glass to break it, as it would make a different frequency of sound, would the sensor still detect the glass being broken? I would like to know am I better off getting an alarm with the shock sensor or glass breakage sensor, or a combination of the both? If i didn't have $600 worth of uni books to buy i'd consider the pager type alarms, however, beggers can't be choosers! Thank again for all your help Barnsy
