My EA cfi has done just over 250,000 kms and the performance is pretty shitty... is it because its a cfi motor or also because its done alot of kms and needs to be reconditioned?

Approx 250,000km when bought in 2002
Now approaching 300,000km (w00t) Will probably need a rebuild soon (end of year?), as there's some oil around the throttle body (v8s have an EGR hose that refeeds thru the t/b). The funny thing is the exhaust gas looks/smells clean enough. meh... *yay* I got a new exhaust yesterday: Pacemaker PH4000s, new cats, twin 2.5"s for a short distance going into single 3", with a single deep-offset muffler to quieten/deepen things up a bit. Sounds goooooood, and it's not even burnt in yet! Awaiting complaints from neighbours... : *might* be fitting AUII XR8 manifolds & t/b next monday, I have all the gaskets, bolts, hose bits, etc, all I need is a damn 5mm OD T-piece, can't find them ANYWHERE, argh! -Dave- |

I have clocked about 301500 now on my engine. The turbo is starting to take its toll and my oil pressure is starting to play up.
If I accelerate hard the light will flash at me and it takes ages to go away when I start the car now. Im buying another newer EL engine to replace it this weekend!! As soon as its in and I can get a retune Im turning the boost up to 16psi!!

a) I own an EAII (1990 build) Fairmont CFI (4-spd BTR-85LE, 3.08:1 LSD) 2) It has 267,000 on the clock And it runs sweet as! The head was removed a few weeks ago to replace the gasket, and there's no scoring/marring on the pistons, block, head, cylinder bores. And the valvetrain is immaculate. The only thing wrong was a little bit of rust around some of the water jackets on the block. Plus it's had, count them, 17 owners! MECHANICAL MODS: 2.5" exhaust, but otherwise STOCK! So, either your car has been treated with no respect, or it's a lemon.

Yeah I know MPFI's better, but for the price I paid for the CFI it's worth purchasing a few upgrades. I mean come on... you gotta modify, and with a CFI as a basis, at least it'll be pretty original since everyone seems to go MPFI.
