Stinger has been granted a stay of execution till 2024, then goneski. Won't be replaced. Been a sales failure.

No surprise really.

A market segment with shrinking interest
A premium sports car (and price) from a mostly budget oriented manufacturer.

Asking people to stump up 60-70k for a car with no history and a badge many still consider cheap junk was always gonna be a hard task.
If it had a Toyota or Nissan badge it would have sold like hot cakes.

Lol, more negativity towards oppo brands, so predictable.

Nothing about ceasing after this gen in that article other than making no comment and for a sales flop it out sold the leader of the sub $80k sports car category in March, infact its probably sold as many in the first 3 months.
Not bad for a 65k car in a shrinking market segment.

Usually from those who have never tried one or even sat in one.

I have heard rumours that there is a 6-8 month wait on the Stinger currently. They have to have some interest to create that.

Would I buy one?
Yep.

Kia EV6. I think the GT will be a Tesla competitor (minus the aspirational element) Range pending.

Might also be interested in the upmarket Hyundai Genesis - doing the same thing as Toyota/Lexus.

I say this, but then I drive the FG2, and it's still too good to trade in. So I'm hoping its late 2022...

I saw a black on black on black GT Stinger on the showroom floor the other week, wish I'd taken a photo.
Looked slick and mean, but stylish at the same time.
Bit like Dwayne Johnson in a black tie dinner suit you just know there's lots of muscle underneath too.

Questionable source of info, 5'10 isn't that tall. probably more to do with how low the car is to the ground, or just bias.
have a looks at the sports cars Jeremy Clarkson fits into and he's 6'4.

Interesting reading the comments at the bottom of that car advice article. Some you have to take with a pinch of salt, but some pretty sensational claims about what some think who are/were primarily badge orientated.

The Genesis GV70 3.5T just might be the car I would take over the Stinger.

Found a Clarkson review
"The Stinger is a very good car. It’s quite hard to climb aboard because the roofline is low but when you’re in, the driving position has that “hang on a minute” feel that lets you know you’re at the helm of something special."

https://www.driving.co.uk/car-review...-stinger-gt-s/

"If you were in the market for a BMW M3, or a fast Audi or a Mercedes-AMG, it’s certain you’d be better off with the Kia. But of course you wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing. A Kia? What the hell would the neighbours think?"

Sedans are dying big time. Even the Camry is only selling about 800 a month now.

It is a good car, but no one really wants one. A lot of people thought it would attract Falcon and Commodore buyers, but it just didn't happen.

That part is a shame, because it was/is worthy of taking over from the commodore and falcon as a alternative.

I have to say though, I see them all the time

Not sure why anyone would think Stinger would attract Falcon and Commodore buyers when Falcon and Commodore buyers weren't buying Falcons and Commodores anymore save for the last opportunity to have a locally built V8 car of which the Stinger is not and never pretended to be.

It was always going to be a hard sell in our market and that it even drew interest should be considered a positive result even if its only seen low sales compared to those established offerings.
But thats just common sense and not really relevant if your sole objective is to sink the boot in.

Yep, I've driven a few since they where released and whilt they are more of a G6ET/Calais V V8 replacement then XR8/SS they are a hell of a car and could easily of been an alternative. Unfortunately all those buyers have gone to Dual Cabs and SUV's... Damn shame.

Luckily its still around for those who are after that sort of thing.. For now at least...

I like them, but if I was in the market and looking at spending that sort of money then mustang is pretty tempting.

Judging by the sales numbers, many people do. One is an icon. The other one no one really cared about, and will be discontinued.

Nice attitude.... you do realise not everyone has to abide by your own narrow minded ideals don’t you?
Why frequent a ford forum if that’s how you feel?

Yep doesn't matter how good a car is if it doesn't sell. The numbers that Mustang are doing, Kia would need a huge profit margin to cover the difference if they only sold one car.

I understand that they can carry it with the other cars in their range going great guns but bean counters don't like it.

It is sad that it hasn't done better but I reckon a lot are holding on Commodores and Falcons and maybe a V8 option would have been better but we will never know.

For what it is worth I would love both though I think the Stinger would be more practical for my needs at this point given I can only have one car.

I'm not worried about the quality of either.

How dare you express an opinion on the internet that someone doesn't like ? Shame shame shame. How inconsiderate.
If it makes you feel better, I totally agree with you.

What struck me as strange was that Hyundai Kia has a 5.0 DOHC V8 and the TTV6,
why on earth Kia never put the 5.0 V8 in Stinger remains a mystery to me.

Others will disagree but to me, a V8 option would have made Stinger far more attractive
to a certain group of buyers who were wanting more than just a two door coupe....

On another note,
I scored plenty of seat time in a Kia Sportage recently, was a pleasant experience but
noticed that fuel efficiency of a 2.0 engine comes at a price, nice enough but for me,
the lack of torque required the auto to shift gears more than I’m used to in the CX-7.
I accept that most buyers would be happy with the power level but I’m probably in the
group that would pick a 2.0 EB Escape or a Hybrid RAV4.

Stinger is a good car but is it $60,000 Kia good? I think its failure is the badge on the bonnet and its price tag, where have the 30% of Commodore buyers who were buying the SS gone, where did they go? Not to the Kia Stinger it seems.

It was the logical replacement for the XR6T/SS Falcodore customer.
Maybe the Stinger should have been under a different brand? IE Hyundai has Genesis, should Kia have their own 'upper' brand that the Stinger was marketed under?

I feel this is more a failure of marketing rather than the product itself, the 270KW 3.3L twin turbo V6 sedan didn't resonate with the buyers of 270KW I6T Falcon or 304KW V8 VF SS sedans.

I don’t follow the badge vs pricing logic. What else can you get with the tech, power, size, handling that the stinger offers? Tested against the last SSV it was found to put handle and be a little bit faster.
