This thread just reminded me of the new Calais advert, ok the im sure the Calais is an ok car (for a holden) but where do they get of comparing it to a German Engineered master piece such as the BMW. They also note that it is over $100,000 cheaper, hopefuly the people watching the advert will realise why.: sorry.

Most comfortable... surprisingly, I've sat in lots of big-dollar stuff (half million dollar Bentleys anyone?) but my favourite comfort wise would be the AU Fairlane. I don't know why, but sitting in that is just... mmm. Definitley not the quietest (diff whine?) or smoothest (craptastic auto?) I've been in though.
Smoothest hmm... hard to think. As far as the transmission is concerned, Golf GTI DSG MkV. Drove one... unbelieable. Can't feel shifts at all. Its like they're not happening. Hell, at low revs you can barely hear them.

I would say the ford focus is the smoothest car ive driven. Might not be the quietest or have the best interior but the way it absorbs the bumps and rutts is excellent.

Was in the states recently and after dropping a rental car off a mexican guy gave us a lift back to our hotel in a Lexus 4WD. I freaked out when he took off cause i didnt even release the thing was running. I've heard about how quite lexus' are but never expected how smooth and quite they really were...

vw touareg with v10 tdi donk... like a truck at idle, but one airbags conrolled from centre console...
a pair of front shocks are worth more than a fair few cars on these forums... infact most new vehicles from vw... or the early 90s lexus/soarers... the sc400 was great... for a readily available cxar, my eb ghia was very comfy...

Audi is too firm, at least our A4 was. The Lexus I've driven were disappointing. Both suffered from a couple of rattles and squeaks, and the LX470 made me seasick.

MY05 Liberty GT. Not far behind my WRX performance wise but it's 10000000X more comfortable to be in anyday.

Quietest, smoothest, comfortable car-that you have been in - maybe my memory is a bit rose-coloured, but I would say a Citroen DS Pallas.

Jag V12 Deimler? Something like that. Oldschool styles, probably late 80's? It looked like a shitheap but I have never been in such a smooth accelerating, riding and handling car as that...

This car Im going to mention would be irrelivant now but I remember in the early 90's the New Magna - dunno what year but they were common in 2 tone, anyway I could not believe how smooth the gear changes were and how quiet it was! I remember saying this is what all cars are going to be like in the next 10 yrs.

As far as I'm concerned the word "Best" and "quietest and smoothest" don't necessarily go together. My preference would be to use "Best" and "rumble" and "firm" in the same sentence.

1986 TM Magna Elite. Traded it for a '92 NC 5.0 Fairlane, and wished I never did. STILL the best car I have ever owned.

I had a 94 KS Verada EI once. It had the lowest road, suspension and engine noise out of any car I've ever been in.
