I dislike Comformadores with a passion but I have been unimpressed with the XR6 Turbo.

We had a BF ZF 6SA one at work and it wasn't that fun as the mags make out. Better in manual or modified???

Now an XT Fairmont 302W. Theres a car!

What about XR8? id have that well before a 6T, and its price and performance is closer to the SSV too, (lets not forget the bulge too)...

I read saw something interesting just before in the wheels magazine, auto XR6 turbo ran a 13.7sec 1/4 mile!!!!

That's right. XR6Ts are pretty close to the VE SS/SS-Vs in a straightline.

Did you see the lap times and results from the 12hr..? XR8 was significantly quicker than the XR6T and on par with the F6 for lap times around Bathurst.

Actually the BF XR8 is lighter than the SS-V (1795kg vs 1805kg).

The BF XR8 does exceptionally well in the production car catagory too, allways seems to lead the T's and SS's home..

The Brute Ute XR8's steer ok....

I wouldn't take the SS because...
a) its a Holden
b) its a VE and its ugly
c) I don't wear thongs (I mean the ones you wear on your feet... but either way)
d) it don't sound good enough
e) it won't be as fast as the the press car's BS 13.2s 0-400m time

d) They actually sound decent for a standard exhaust, and the XR8's standard exhaust isnt exactly inspiring either, plus, not many car enthuists keep their cars stock, especially regarding the exhaust, so you can always make it sound like this:

e) I dont see why it wouldn't be as fast as the press cars, if so, then the XR8 should also be slower than the press cars.

Maybe we should give a fair analysis of both vehicles, but thats easier said than done on this site.

Test drive both vehicles mate, make your own decison. I wouldn't ask anything refering to a holdon on this site, the majority are biased and cant see a good australian car for the life of them.

Its common knowledge, Holden (not HSV by the way) always "tweak" their press cars with the release of a new model. And since I have witnessed enough stock VESS's unable to get anywhere near that time, I'd find it hard to believe they wouldn't tweak them... thats another reason why I don't like Holden.

It's also a common misconception that any brand "tweaks" their cars for the press. Having been involved with testing both Holden and Ford V8s and sixes, I am yet to see evidence of this.

Also press times are completely irrelevant IMO, given most are inexperienced in the art of launching.

Suffice to say, I agree with Jock260. Getting an unbiased opinion here is like asking an Arab to comment on America

In regards to the handling of the VE SS-V that i test drove, it may not be that its a bad handling car, i just felt like it rolled over worse than a pet dog trying to get his belly rubbed. I have been fortunate enough to of driven a lot of current cars, most of BMW's range, Lexus's range, F6 Typhoon, XR6 turbo, u name it, ive driven it, and only one car rolls over more than the VE, and thats my dads 2001 polo!!!!

meh, to each there own, im not trying to convince you, im basing my opinion on having driven a range of cars this year. If you liked the way it handled, then thats fine. Unfortunately, i havent driven an XR8, so i dont know what they are like, but that will change next year, when the new one is available. You also have to remember, i drive a GTI, and as some of you will know, they are very stiffly sprung.

I understand the difference in ride between your GTi (nice car) and a VE SS-V.

You could say the same gap appears between an XR8 and an SS-V in terms of handling and power, which is why many have turned to the XR6T IMO

ss v 19l/100 km.that will be $30 per 100km next week.$15 in tax.

for me i'll wait for the new xr6t next year.would you really buy the bf now when the new model will be out in about 12 weeks.

Fair enough, the XR6 turbo is still a bit soft for me, the best suspension i have felt for ride and handling was in the 335i coupe i drove earlier in the year, But we are talking a much higher price for that car so u expect it. When i drive the XR8 next year i will review it as well, and i wont buy it if its softer than the SS (in the market for a ute).

I average around 14l/100 km so I couldn't see the SSV being that much worse. I'd take the SSV simply because it is a V8.

Although I'd happily take a phoon.

We have to remember that few locally built road cars have the desired setup for the real enthusiasts like yourself (main market prefers to have less compromise) and you can get some pretty good after market options to achieve that firmer ride.
I'm probably considering a ute as well for the first time ever because I do a lot of kms by myself and often need to carry various things so will be in the same "boat" as you - excuse the pun...

I challenge you (or anyone) to find me an E-series HSV thats achieved better than the SS's 13.2 in any magazine test/comparison.

12.8/100km is the average on ours, best was on the highway which was 8.8/100km. But thats a VY SS S2 with some mods. IMHO, you want a 6, get a ford, you want an 8, get a Holden, just my opinion.

i drive a v8 commo
i will test drive a 6t to see what all the rave is about
i have driven the windsor/boss setup's no thanks, (ls1 still favourd)
but going to ford over christmas to see about a 6t

Funny those results on a Ford Forum LOL.... XR6T any day of the week. Ive had an edited LS1 and it did not even compare to my XR6T.
