I have, a 12 month old i45 company car with all the fruit, sat nav, touch screen, iPod, blue tooth, reversing camera and keyless entry and start etc. It's rubbish, flimsy interior, inner door trim flexes all over the place. Centre console trim falling off, stereo volume control that goes up when turned down and visa versa, a transmission that's so unintuitive that they fitted flappy paddles to it so you can change gears for it and a petrol engine that's gutless and sounds like a diesel. I read an article in the daily Tele motoring pages (Sydney) the other day saying the i45 was now an aspirational vehicle. WTF?????? Huge profits by selling substandard poorly engineered cars at inflated prices to idiots to stupid to realise what crap they are buying. Hyundai are not the company to follow, Ford are in enough trouble, here at least, to be putting out rubbish like that. I'll happily wait for FH to arrive buy an XR8/GS and enjoy one of the last real cars to be sold in Australia.

Neither are Ford.
There has already been an article posted on one of the auto websites with a quote by Mullaly saying the Everest will sell along side another SUV/crossover. Most likely the Edge. They see the Everest as a different type of vehicle, suited to off-road whereas the Territory/Edge is more of a light duty SUV more suited to on-road. The same way Toyota have with the Kluger/Prado. |

The Edge looks like a perfect follow-up (won't say replacement, as the Tezza will be very hard to replace for what it is) for the Territory. I hope it does wear the Territory badge. The Everest looks the goods too and will perfectly compliment the Ranger.
After all the bad news and disappointment this past 12 months with Ford, I'm starting to feel good about being a Ford fan again

Just doing some numbers.....40 million in subsidies for two years production.
Selling about 500 units a month....so say 6000 units a year... 12000 units for 40 million dollars = $3300 dollars per car.... Assuming current monthly sales will continue at the same rate. |

I just want to see some proper pics not tease crap.
Start building the hype now -reveal reveal reveal ! With current ride 8yrs/190000kms I'm ready to buy again and have saved a warchest to get something special... Do I buy now or hold off and wait and see? Do I want an imported Mustang......? 490kw....hmmmm Or will there be a last hurrah SuperFalcon that I just must have...... Too much uncertainty for me at the moment - but yes - excited anticipation....but I have no patience !!!! |

There's over 12 months of FG2 sales left to protect and they're likely also still signing off on final details of the appearance. I wouldn't bet the house on a special super Falcon but I wouldn't hold out on a 490kw Mustang either. The big hero Mustang may not be seen for a few years yet.

I love how ford has handled their situation and continue to as they have here. Well done ford aus in such a hard climate for cars they are doing well. I too have been in a brand new i30 with all the gear....it's cheap and handles very average when pushed even Slightly. Lets hope all the engineers smarts who went into making falcon fg and terriers don't go to waste, and get used on the next product we get here.

Not that there's any guarantee the Edge will be the 2017 Territory, but if Mullaly's respect for FordOz is legit, the Australian version will get unique fascias and features.
For starters, a diesel version is a definite starter, if the 'Edgitory' is. Hang on, how can a model based on a Euro-only(RHD) platform possibly get a look-in here??? The only places the next-gen Edge will be built is Canada and Spain. Not Asia. If the Mondeo isn't going to be built there, why would the Edge/Territory? Or is the Everest going to supplant it? Perhaps not the most terrible thing, with the same mob who designed the utilitarian, multi-pocketed Territory at the helm. Might be a better mousetrap. Just sayin'.gif. My guess is that the Australian market is big enough that Ford will keep Engineering and Design staff on hand.
The Ranger was an excellent pilot program to demonstrate that FoA could design a vehicle for its own market that could be manufactured elsewhere.

All I have to say is if we are looking at potential sales figures for a Global RWD/AWD platform from last year, then here we go: Ford Explorer 194,349 Ford Mustang 91,580 Ford Taurus 87,457 Ford Flex 32,290 Ford Falcon 21,267 Ford Territory 16,412 Ford Crown Victoria 9,451 Lincoln MKS 13,146 Lincoln MKT 7,880 Lincoln Town Car 1,223 Total 475055 (That is why I was saying that 250,000 was easily accounted for...) (I have left out all suitable Mercury sales from last year but they would only add to the numbers. Obviously the Panther sales are for discontinued models, but they still sold... ) Now I do not see how anyone could argue against all of these vehicles being be far superior if built off GRWD/AWD. This would add to their appeal and be cost effective for their purpose... Do it Ford, if you can't, we will have to buy a bloody Hyundai!

It's not a subsidy, it's co development.
The difference is that the government expects to see something in return for its money. Sources suggest that Wheels front cover of 2014 Falcon is way off, sketch has too much Taurus SHO.... Last edited by jpd80; 17-08-2013 at 04:08 PM. |

sports cars to SUVs, the harsh reality is both justification for change and the opportunity cost in doing so. 1) Justifying production Changes if you're are going to make a change, the cost of doing it has to be justified in either increasing the list prices of the vehicles or the combined sales of all major vehicle lines. 2) Opportunity cost. the opportunity cost of investing that money comes at the price of preventing Ford from using that funding arguably to greater effect on different vehicles in different area which most likely have a much better case for ROI. That's the rub - consequences elsewhere... Last edited by jpd80; 17-08-2013 at 07:39 PM. |

I don't follow the mags, haven't for years, so don't know which edition that chop came from, but even if it's the latest, you'd expect that would have been finalised some time before the new official teaser so that it was ready for print etc.

I have a couple of questions for those far more learned than myself..
What does $104 million get you these days in term of a model upgrade?. Would it be similar to an au to ba type upgrade? If ford utilise bits from its global parts bin. Is it able to make a more significant upgrade at a cheaper price? Like most I'm pretty happy with the driveline basically carrying over. But I would really expect to see the interior as well as the interior "freshened up" |
