HSV are not closing down when Holden does. They will be importing Camaros, Corvettes, and doing work on the Holden import models.

Not for performance car buyers. 80's was dark days, full off asthmatic 6 cylinder S pak falcons and cheap imitation 12 slotters. Meanwhile the general was churning out VH GRP 3 HDT hottie's followed by VK blue meanie and VL And walkinshaw products.
Yes those were dark dark bad days...... |

I've heard the same thing with the VF GTS, most guys are getting more than the 430kw quoted from HSV. Goes both ways. Either way, no way a stock F6 will keep a GTS on it's toes. I just think it's stupid and cocky for someone to say that.

It's well known that ford and fpv claimed power outputs are much lower than what they really are. The FG I6T is not 270kw, the F6 motor is not 310 and the GT Coyote is not 335kw. They're all significantly higher than what is claimed HSV always put a higher number on their cars and so far most have been under 430kw or close to it. |

Yeh - but that was AVO / DJR third party stuff. No involvement from Ford. In fact FORD ran for the hills when DJR approached them to go partners in a Skunkworks set up - to try and rival HDT. They were worried they couldnt offer a warranty on the product so just ignored it.
Best you could hope for back in the 80's was an EFI powered XE 4.1 with a 4 speed. ( aside from the V8 powered ESP models - which had beautiful interiors - but had poxy lacklustre pollution choked performance ) |

Not even dude! Have you read the most recent dyno and drag comparisons between the GTS and GTF? Bugger all in it down the quarter and the GTF has a higher dyno output, at around 340rwkw. F6's have consistently shown to put out around 310rwkw. We know from customers cars on this forum that to run similar quarter mile times the F6 requires around 50-70rwkw less than the supercharged V8 as a result of the torque of the turbo 6. Sooooo I reckon the F6 would have a shot at the GTS if it had the 275's on the rear like the GTF.

Holden were on their knees in the 80s and were almost dead. In fact, if the EA didn't have all those launch problems, Holden would have died. It was that close.

Well done HSV, it's one of the things I prefer HSV over FPV is the way HSV finish off their utes. Its not just a sticker pack ute with the same motor, HSV are putting a lot into this Maloo. Whilst I have always had a soft spot for the Super Pursuit, the Maloo for me has always been well finished ever since the VY.
I know it may not be able to take much load in the rear etc, but it's a sports ute...

My mate has an 2012 GTS. Probably IMO the best rear end and overall best looking holden out.

Chances are, HSV have committed to too many LSA's, the sales volumes aren't there, so they're offloading them into the ute to shift a few more.
AFAIK, HSV are not selling as well as they'd like ... look how many V8 sales the SSV has taken away from their clubsports (I bought my R8 in Jan this year, and it was only build no. 150 or so).... and it was heavily discounted. |

He also mentioned that he drove a FPV "Typhoon" (sic) ute when they were released and what a potential "death trap" they are!

When compared to what, I'd rather crash a potentially fast ford than slow great wall, tata or Chery.

He didn't say he would beat it, just give it a run for it's money. I tend to agree, the f6 ute is probably only making a fraction less power at the wheels, and that rush of boost....
Might get beaten, but it might be closer than you think. |

When I said my F6 Ute would give the HSV Ute a run for its money. I believe the F6 would. Yes my F6 is stock and I know I most probably would loose. But it wouldn't be by much. If the rear suspension properly set up and a decent set of rear tyres. Who knows. The F6 is an amazing performance car/ute that could give HSV a run. |
