Yeah Canberra has this strange aura about it. I can only describe it as a black hole. The further you get out, the greener the scenery gets, and the cheaper the petrol gets!

I noticed yesterday that United are selling E10 for $1.17.....Thats down about 20c per litre from where it has been lately.

Does this mean that international oil prices are still very very low???

That's really interesting to see because here in Alice it's still 138.9c/L for 91 or 139.9c/L for diesel (as it has been for months now), however at Ayers Rock I paid 208.9c/L for 95 where conveniently there was no 91...

Usually Alice is a good 40-50c/L more so I'm pleased to see we're in line with the capital cities (but for how long I wonder now?!)

whenever my FG trip computer gets to 60L used, i pull in to a BP and fill up (to the brim, always) with Ultimate. wander in to the shop, wave my card. occasionally i have to enter a pin as its over $100. then leave and drive away with a full tank.

my car doesn't run on anything other than petrol, and i need my car, so i haven't looked or been bothered by petrol prices for many years.

Yeah my FG always uses 98 octane even when the price was nudging $2.00/lt.
It runs best on 98 octane so thats what it gets. I've always used Ultimate but its now had a few tankfuls of V Power which seems to work well too, probably smoother?? I can then also use my Coles vouchers - a whole $2.00 or thereabouts discount for the tankful.

I been running United E10 on my BF cos its the cheapest petrol you can buy.

ALWAYS get at least 700k's per tank.

I tried one tank of 98 but it did'nt seem to improve the economy at all so i went back to the E10.

A long read but does give a bit of insight on how the pricing works Down Under.

http://www.aip.com.au/pricing/facts/...uel_Market.htm

Tapis (Singapore based fuel pricing) is approx. US$71 per barrel
West Texas (US based fuel pricing) is approx. US$61 per barrel

No guessing which pricing we are under.

$1.21 at 711 Wadalba NSW, for the next few hrs anyway. It's the big jumps, the lack of warning and the double dipping of GST and excise that gets me.

Today in Ararat (Western Victoria) $1.26.9. Got back to Melbourne $1.44.9. With cartage costs Ararat should be at least $1.50 unless Melbourne drivers are being ripped a new one!!

As I understand it, more demand makes the price of petrol rise, and Melbourne servos would be much busier. I imagine the franchisees would also pay higher council rates to have the property.

or one servo was at the low point of a price cycle while the other was at a high point.

these threads are funny. people make assumptions based on their experience with maybe 2 servo's on the same day or even different days. often even different states.

its a conspiracy i tells ya.

Ararat (the bush) doesn't have price cycles like Melbourne. Its not uncommon that when Melbourne prices jump that they are around 15-20 Cpl more than Western Victoria.

Its simply a matter of Petrol stations charging people what they are prepared to pay. Terminal gate prices have jumped from 118 cents a litre four weeks ago, to 126 cents now (for unleaded petrol), and there may be some slow selling country petrol stations that are selling petrol, that they bought themselves at lower terminal gate pricing. But for petrol stations in major cities to be charging 143 cents a litre now, when the terminal gate pricing is around 126 cents a litre, means they are just making a fair bit of profit on the petrol.

In Adelaide now, there are still some charging 143 cents a litre, but there are also quite a few independants that are selling for 127 cents. Costco the other day was selling theres for 116 cents a litre.

People just need to make sure they don't reward the retailers that are trying to charge too much for petrol.
