ah ok, and the sensor itself is expensive? Is it just the sensor you buy?

You need the sensor (cheepish) and controller (expensive).

you need the sensor and a controling unit. Around AUD$300

Because im starting from scratch without a base map im fully expecting to be fine tuning for a month or so to get things the way I want them. Rushing will only lead to a blown engine.

A little progress. Im still spending most of my timing tuning the low end. Spent an hour or so on idle and got it much better
With stock ECU It wouldnt idle at all With chiptorque it idled like this: http://users.on.net/~jasiunas/stockstandard/CT.mp3 And now it idles like this: http://users.on.net/~jasiunas/stockstandard/MS2.mp3 A professional tuner would have no problem tuning, but I would spend the money on a WB02 sensor and do it yourself. The autotune fuction works quite well! Grant has kindly agreed to let me borrow his wideband for the weekend so hopefully I might get it on the dyno soon and see what has happened. It is definately a lot more responsive off the line Grant total, no more spent so still around $600 installed.

Wideband is in now.
Dodgy wiring, but its only for a few days ![]() Accurate AFR guage in dash is NIIIICE ![]() Now I can fill in a target AFR table. The MS2 uses the target AFR and VE to calculate the correct amount of fuel to deliver. With the wideband I can datalog what that actual AFR is, and from the target AFR and approximate VE value the MS2 in autotune mode can calculate the actual VE table. Once the VE table is tuned, everything becomes really easy! Ill probably be spending the next few nights doing this - too dam hot to tune during the day

Hey Mark..
GREAT work. I been talking to mark bout this and sounds awesome. Have read a lot about them and very interested. What i wanna know is who else is interested in these. Maybe we could organsie a group buy or sumfin? And maybe even some base maps depending on what cars we get with what mods etc etc. Please let either Mark or myself know if anyone is interested. Thanks Matt |

MS2 with wideband will be around $600-700 +postage for the hardware depending on what brand of wideband you want and many extras you get (e.g pre-made loom).

As far as the chip itself goes, the HP4 is tuned for a moderately large camshaft such as a wade 1521a or crow stage 3. The chips themselves are reprogrammable so can be retuned to suite any engine combo.

thought id also give a quick update on the wideband tuning.
I took the car out the other night for some WOT runs. I found the autotune was far to slow to tune these maps correctly so I had to do it the hard way. What I did was datalog a power run to 2000rpm and back off. Pulled over, checked the logs, adjusted VE tables to fix the AFR, and then repeat but take it to 3500rpm and so on. Wasnt too long before I was doing 1000-5500rpm runs at WOT with safe AFR's ![]() In this segment of the datalog you see the end of one such power run. AFR is stable at 12.8.

Very interesting.
Since i got my big cam I need to do something like this to get the most out of it. That first idle sounds similar to mine, but mine is a bit smoother.. the 2nd mp3 wont play :(

I did some more tuning again today which was cut short by one of my "quick fix" wires comming loose. With that patched up I did another few runs working my timing maps. Ive added a fair bit and still no pinging. The engine is feeling alot crisper now. The last job I have left is getting the accel enrichment tuned in. At the moment its adding more fuel than it needs so Ill slowly start trimming that back. I think then it would be good time to get it on the dyno and check the shape of the power curve.

Got stuck back into it this evening and started playing around with the spare I/O lines. I figured a good place to start would be to use the MS2 to drive my shiftlight instead of the Jaycar frequency switch (That setup is described HERE). The frequency switch worked ok, but it was a PITA to get the LED switching at the right rpm. I just cut the wires between the light and the frequncy switch and joined them to the output lines of the MS2. Set up the output rule in the software:
![]() ... and done. This rule just says turn the light on when the rpm is greater 5500 and dont turn it off until it drops least 50rpm from there. Short movie of the light back in action at a very precise 5500rpm HERE. Ok, that is all very simple but I can think of heaps of places these lines can be put to use. In older e-series they can be used to switch the BBM or control thermo fans. Autos could probably wire it up to turn on/off auto shift kits based on throttle position. Boosted engines could use them to fire water injection. I think next ill try hooking up the aircon to the MS2 to add a few RPM to the idle when it is switched on.

Ive come to the conclusion i need this sooner than later. Car is running like a pig, and from the looks of your video much slower than yours.
Top work Mark.

mate.... How easy does she rev out!!!! That is some nice power there.
I see youve changed to dizzy, does this mean coil pack just wont cut it? or does it work too, and is timing adjustable? Im a rats ИИИИ away from ordering i tell ya...

As for tuning, its the same either way except when your running a dizzy you have to also tell it what base timing your running.
