Here you go:

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/com...7-2862,00.html

Click read full story. All it says is it will be illegal to sleep in a parked car.

I thought america had some bizaar state laws, but they are phasing them out, and we are introducing them. this really does sound stupid, cant think of anything in defence of this law.

i just filled out there submission form with this

Quote:
Refering to your new law of not being able to sleep in a motorvehicle

This is ludicrous and defy's everything that VIC roads is trying to achieve with there 'STOP, REVIVE, SURVIVE' campaign

I really think you need to re-evaluate this clause in your amendment

Last thing we need is some tired weary driver driving down the road and falling asleep at the wheel possibly killing someone because of a law
More people need to send this in for it to get noticed though

No No No, Silly!!! It wont apply to them, they have a full time, paid chauffeur to drive them around at their beck and call!!! They can be as ****ed or tired as they like, and have no problem getting their family home safely, sif they'd be concerned!!!

Heaven forbid we should be given the same decency!

A mate of had the same thing happen , only his car wasn't running . He was near the Quarry in Greystanes Rd , asleep in the back seat , got charge DUI with "the intention to drive" because his Keys were in the Ignition . This was over 20 years ago .
I've slept in the car myself , driving to South West Rocks from Sydney . Like has already been mentioned " Stop , Revive , Survive " .

What the hell , must be somebody trying to "justify their place" sitting behind a desk ? sleep:

Guys before you start jumping up and down, it would pay to check this out a bit more - note the following

Also it says they want this in place for new year's - clearly it is not about power naps but about controlling crowd behaviour & numbers mainly on new years. If you check I bet other places like Philip Island, Lorne, Ocean Grove, & places on the Mornington Peninsula have similar things in place for NYE.

The wording of the proposed law is " making it an offence for a person to camp or allow any other person to camp in any motor vehicle left standing on a road;"
Can't see anywhere it says you can't take a power nap in your car or have a nice lie down with a hooker on top of you.

But if one council can get that through with a seemingly valid reason then they and other councils can abuse it. These guys obviously don't have enough to do and are trying to make themselves look busy to the public.

True, but how are the cops going to tell if your having a nice sleep, or just a power nap? Personally, i'd prefer to have a bit longer or a power nap than 15 mins, try an hour or so..

OUtback ute - But what happens after NYE? I doubt they'd take the law away. Sounds like using it as an excuse to me. I'd still prefer drunk people to sleep in their car on NYE rather than drive.

They've been trying to do this in NSW for a while too...My brother got warned about it after he explained that he was on his P's, just got off the train after a few drinks, and didn't want to break the law by driving home. Let alone run over the drunk that was walking down the road and possibly would trip and fall over onto the road in front of him....Mate, the government is stupid. this is why i choose not to put anything on the ballot paper when I have to vote, cause no matter who you vote for you end up with an idiot sitting in power. I can't understand why they would do this, as pointed out by all the previous comments as to safety and laws and things like that...stupid stupid stupid.

Sound to me like the all too common minor vocal minority had nothing better to do last week than finger their **** holes and make up rules that effectively target "younger" people. If the council really had any idea they would get more free to travel bus's to run into the early hours of the morning. Then they might not have to worry about people sleeping in their cars. Oh hang on then they cant make money and it will cost them to run the bus's so that wont work.(end a bit more sarcasm)

The other ones that get to me are:

Annoy neighbours with too much noise..

I mean, sure, there are some neighbours that have no respect for others, but I hate neighbours who complain about one night of noise. Our back neighbour has no problem throwing a party into the early morning with a full on Juke Box/PA style thing going on and we never complained as A: Didn't bother us too much. B: We'd expect them to let us have some nights of fun in return.
First party we'd had in a long time (my 18th), cops got called on us by him and he persisted on coming out to the fence several times to abuse us, and we weren't even being loud!

And

Display spray paint cans for sale...

If they're not going to sell them to youngsters, why do they have to stop advertising? If they're worried about people braking in and stealing cans, they must thing kids are idiots and can't tell a hardware store from a bakery or something.

For me, it wouldnt be a case of whether or not the cops would waste their time enforcing it or not. Its more that it SHOULDN'T even BE in the law.

Possibly sleeping in the drivers seat is wrong but taking a nap in on the back seat should be fine.
I wouldnt care which seat I fall asleep in.

The best way if you are juiced up on the goon unlock the car from the passenger side get into the back seat and put the keys in the boot - most cars have the split fold rear seat these days and there is other stupid laws as well , if you have tools on you for no good valid reason ie screw drivers you can be charged with possessing inplements to break into premisses and or vehicles.
Next there will be a by-law made to send every driver a speeding ticket as you start you car - you can be seen as acting to commit a speeding related traffic offence as you have just started your car and you might go over the limit, the law is an a55 in this country - protect the criminals and persecute the innocent :

Gee people, if you go to Victoria and pull over to catch a nap, you won't get booked for this, EXCEPT in the Geelong Shire.

Don't like that, the challenge the law, or don't vote for the sitting ducks.

Local government politics, 'local' not 'state.
