Blackers is correct.

On AU's it's behind the front reinforcement bar, near the horn.
In BA's it in the mirror.

This has been confirmed by bayfords spare parts.

Got a trick idea for the wiring of it though :

Cheers

Question, will a high series BEM plug into a forte dash?

im just trying to figure out how to go about getting it reprogrammed, id preffer not to have to get it towed and cant have the car out of action for more than a weekend... (im guessing for need it in the car to program it?)

Cheers...

A lock smith who can reprogram our keys may be able to do it but chances if he could do it, he wouldn't know how.

Mine will be going to ford on a tilt or trailer.
Been quoted $80-$150 to do it, with a guarantee they can do it.

Currently looking into the BEM. Don't know. May just go try it now.

Cheers

would make it a fair bit easier, even if you could drive it to ford, swap the bem in the carpart then get them to program it, or swap the dash and use the old bem (obviously with a few features not working) until the new one gets reprogrammed

What series AU we talking here?
I have an AU2 ute and have done the complete conversion, swapped with a T2 TE50 dash and heater, using my stock ute BEM now everything works except the outside temp wont read anything else but 19 degrees c, any ideas?

If you do the complete dash conversion make sure you use the fairmont cluster otherwise your stock/xr cluster, the DTE wont work on the cluster lcd panel as it works with the command center in the high series dashes.

Well 6 weeks of little sleep, lots of worrying, and a few hundred dollars in extra cost but the conversion is done.

It was an utter pain in the neck to do because as it turns out series 1 stuff will bolt and plug in but won't work in a series 1.5.
The series 1 is missing 1 wire from the ecu to the bcm and the cluster, and missing about 1 foot of wire that connects it to the ecu, the cluster and the mdc.
That and the bcm's are different.

Pics will come soon in my build thread.

Cheers

Hope you have managed to sort it all out. Sounds like one hell of a headache. I think the message here is that if you swap anything like this make sure it is out of a car that matches perfectly as there were many changes in ecu and bcm through the years the au's were built.
Looking foward to seeing some photos so i know just what i'm up for later this year.

All the gauges worked, climate control came on but I didn't try to use it.
Headlights came on but no cluster illumination. Turning the delay on turned the headlights off.
Wipers worked but no washer pump.

Apart from that it all worked how it should of.

Looking at a document here of the pin assignments for the bem, auto antenna won't work either.

Cheers

You need Fairmont dash (complete with wiring loom) plus heater box.

The complete dash means everything but paticularly the headlight switch, instrument panel, climate control unit, centre dash panel switches as these parts are not directly interchangeable. If your car is a Forte you also need the high series (pink) BEM.

The only things you won't need ...

Cig lighter
Boot and fuel door release
Glove box
Stereo HU
Passenger air bag and cover

These are the only parts for the Fairmont dash that can be taken from the Forte dash.

love digging up old threads Ok, heres my situation. My brother in laws car was just ridden off 1999 AU Fairmont, I have now got him a 2001 SR (forte?).

If i take everything out the fairmont and put it into the SR will that be sweet and work? does the engine loom plug straight in?

Also Id like to put the electric windows in the back, is that loom already there?

Ok, I've recently acquired an AU 1 Fairmont 6cyl complete car.
I already have a AU 1 XLS V8 ute.

Can I do a dash conversion reasonably easily?
as I have a complete car, I assume I've got all the required parts, but will I have to take it to ford etc to get keys programmed or can I just use the Fairmont keys?

If you change ECU, BEM and keys together you won't need any programming. Anything less than all three, no go.

You need to confirm what the Fairmont is.

If it is an AU1, then no
If it is an AU1.5, then Yes

All series 1 utes are AU1.5

Hi All yeah its christmas
Wrecked my AU2 fairmontghia, and looking to buy an AU3 Forte,
so I'm scrounging the threads, before I get the new car and tear it up,
my AU2 is already bare enough, anyone got a great write up,
or any words of wisdom ?
Just learnt ambient sensor, found it, and I dont need old ignition ?
just keys ecu bem,
fairmont vs tree, tree won!!
just a tickle and its cheaper just to do this swap.
merry christmas. thanks in advance for any more help .
